Massive Update at / 16vT Confusion / Dealing With A Big Loss

BlackjackInfo Newsletter, October 11, 2013

Hi Subscribers!     It's Ken Smith, from

I've had my nose to the grindstone on a new project for a couple of months, but I'm finally ready to unveil it in this issue...

In November, my tournament site will celebrate its 10th birthday. While the tournament landscape has changed a lot over those ten years, the site design at never did, until now.

The all-new BJT now has listings for all casino table game events, not just blackjack tournaments. We now have listings and discussions of dice tournaments, baccarat and 3-card poker events, and roulette tournaments. There's even a twice-a-month Mississippi Stud tournament listed.

What's New?:

The Event Calendar lets you search for just the events that interest you.

The message board has new software loaded with fun features.

The site is now mobile-friendly. Visit with your phone or tablet.

Search the casino list and you can quickly see the resulting list on a map.

See who is attending a tournament and add your username with the Attendees feature.

Tournaments are a fundamentally social activity. Please join in, and help us expand the community.

A recent comment on my blog came from a player who suffered a fast and brutal loss of $3,000 while counting and playing perfect basic strategy. His comment came as a reply to my blog post "How a Basic Strategy Player can Beat Blackjack".

My response may not be what you are expecting compared to the usual pie-in-the-sky world of card counting authors.

You can read the conversation and leave your own opinion here. Scroll down to the bottom of the post to see the comments, and you can add to the discussion if you like.

Blackjack Royale

A free iPhone/iPad Blackjack App

I took some time last month to try out some of the dozens of blackjack apps in the iTunes App Store. Here is the cream of the crop... Blackjack Royale is a blackjack app for your iPhone or iPad, and they've done it right.

If you have a compatible device, it's definitely worth downloading. And, you can't beat the price; it's free.

Walk Past the Bad Games

16vT: RS... WTF?!

With lots of casinos adding blackjack tables for the first time, the tables are full of players who are still learning the game and may not know how to identify the best games.

In particular, the plague of tables that pay only 6:5 for blackjack has spread to many casino floors.

Be sure that you don't fall victim to this tactic. In a recent post, I explain how it is usually worth playing at a higher limit table if that's what it takes to be paid 3:2 on your blackjacks.

Read the article: The Casino Floor as a Minefield.

The advice the Strategy Engine gives for how to play a hand of 16 against a dealer ten has been a frequent cause of confusion. I get at least one email a month asking if this is a mistake.

The specific situation is a game that offers surrender, where the Engine says to Surrender if you can, and Stand otherwise. Stand? I thought 16vT is a "Hit". Well, yes, both are true.

Don't worry. It will all make sense once I explain. Read the article about 16 vs a Dealer Ten.
