4 deck shoes

I used to play BJ a lot when I lived on the Mississippi coast years ago. And recently started taking some gambling trips and using a simple Red 7 count.

I've found a game of 4d, s17 with penetration of around 75% and BJ pays 3:2.

I don't see a lot of discussion around the internets on 4d games as the discussion is usually in relation to single, double, 6 or 8 decks.

From what I can find though this seems to be a really advantagous game, especially to a counter.

If one is going to play a shoe game isn't a 4d shoe preferred over a 6d or 8d shoe?

For the same rules and same penetration, a game with fewer decks is always favored but you also have to factor in the casino's heat level

I've only made two trips since I've been counting. And both were what I would call successful.

The first trip to the area was finding the "best" game in the area, so I lost a lot of playing time checking the rules at each casino. I stayed with friends so no hotel room. And I came out a small bit above costs.

The second trip was more successful as I concentrated on the same casino and with discounted room rates, was able to come out a bit more above costs even having to pay for a room.

With even bigger room discounts for my upcoming trip, I'm hoping to make it really pay off. The casino is also been providing very beneficial mailings.

As for the heat...it's pretty much non-existant. I've lost count on several decks because I was being chatted up by pit bosses. I figured it was more important to respond to them and lose a count on a shoe or two than it was to lose out on what appears to be one of the best games in the nation.

I know which casino he is talking about, 4 deck 75% pen s17 das rsa. Great game. If it had LS it would be perfect.

I was there on a trip, spread 5-50 with zero heat whatsoever.

If only 4D was more common throughout the country.

4 Deck Shoes using simple Red 7

In the reading I've done it seems that a prevailing opinion is that a True Count method must be used to take the most advantage. And a simple Red 7 method of course doesn't consider the amount of the shoe that has been played.

But it seems that with a shoe that was only 4 decks with a penetration of 75% the amount of the shoe played would have such a small deviation that especially for a beginning counter, the added complexity of other counting methods would have an almost insignificant advantage. Do you vets agree with that assumption?
