How much does a CBJN reporter in Vegas make per month? 50? $100? 200?

I wouldnt mind doing it regardless of how small it is. $50 is still better than 0. I go to pretty much every casino anyway, so I might as well collect some money while there.

Get in touch with Al and see if he needs reporters for Vegas. I think the Vegas reporters split properties up. Al is the admin here and at BJ21.

I believe Las Vegas is split up into several routes as Ryemo mentions. On the paid page of CBJN over at BJ21 all the amounts are listed for a blackjack report. I could copy it, and paste it here but won't. Norm, banned me for a week for copying something from his site and I don't want that to happen here.

Las Vegas is listed as $850 a month, but I believe this is divided up among at least 5 routes. Every once in a while a notice is posted that a route is available. Now Las Vegas is the flagship of CBJN and they want good timely info. For a single casino located out in the sticks the going rate is $7 a month which hasn't increased since I started reporting in 2001. Another example is Laughlin which is listed at $45, but this is for all the casinos in Laughlin.

Really if you visit a casino often there is not much work involved. You just send Al an email each month with any updated info. I copy my previous report and then high light changes in bold each month. For a small casino with only a handful of tables very easy to do. The most time consuming part of it all is to make a trip to the bank to cash the check, but even then I let the checks accumulate for 2 or 3 months before cashing them.

Reporting for Current Blackjack News
You are welcome to send reports on locations that have not been updated recently. If you want to report on a location that was updated this month or last, check with us first by email. We are willing to pay for one report per location per month, and someone else may already have spoken for the location you are seeking to update. If the month shown on a location is older than last month, you don't need to check before sending a report.

Where to Send News
Please email the report to [email protected]

When to Gather News
If we pay you enough to visit your casinos on the 1st or 2nd of the month, then please visit them as close to that time as possible to gather news, but no later than the 2nd. If we do not pay you enough to justify a special trip to casinos on the 1st, then please share the most recent information you have when the 1st of the month comes around. Afternoons and evenings are better for gathering news than mornings due to more tables being open.

Deadline
Please get the information to us by the afternoon of the 2nd of the month. Information we receive on the 3rd will be too late to make that month's newsletter. Reports received too late will not be paid for. Please submit the reports as you complete them, do not wait until the 2nd of the month.

Name for Credit
We want to list you as a CBJN reporter. Please select a name for that purpose. You can use your real name, or you can select another name for receiving credit.

If You Are Paid
If we pay you $50 or more per month for news, please send us your Social Security number.

Telephone, email address
We would like to be able to reach you if we need to clarify anything. Probably we will be able to do that by email. We would like your phone number too, in case we can't reach you by email.

Information Wanted For Each Casino
For blackjack only: changes in rules, numbers of decks used, penetration, and whether big bets are being made and accepted with no problem. Please find the number of tables with each different set of rules and number of decks.
For new casinos, please tell how the rules differ from this base set of rules: dealer takes a hole card but does not check under it if the upcard is 10, dealer stands on soft seventeen, naturals pay 3:2, you may double down on any first two cards, you may split any pair, you may resplit any pair except aces, split aces receive one card each, insurance, and no surrender. Please also tell us the number of tables with each number of decks or different set of rules.
We also keep track of minimum and maximum bets.
Please note whether there are any great promotions such as baccarat without a commission, coupon books worth hundreds of dollars, etc.

Number of Tables
Please report the number of tables with each set of rules and number of decks. The total tables you list for a given casino should equal the total number of blackjack tables in that casino. For tables that are closed, use your best guess as to what they would be used for if they were open. Sometimes you can tell from the discard trays or the felts.

Casino Edge
We will find this number; you do not need to do so.

Peeking at Hole Cards
Report dealers peek under hole cards only if they do it by hand under 10s. Peeking under aces does not help the player. Peeking with an in-the-table reader does not help the player.

Min/Max bets
On the maximum bet: Report the largest you see, even if it applies to only one table.
Combine tables to get the min and max. For example, if some tables are 2 to 200 and others are 5 to 500, report the min as 2 and the max as 500.

Cut Off
"Cut off" is the number of decks left when the dealer decides to shuffle. For shoe games it is how many decks behind the cut card. For single and double deck, it is the fraction of a deck left when the dealer is indifferent between shuffling and dealing another round.

Format of Information
However you compile the information, please make the changes obvious. We want to be able to quickly zoom in on the items that have changed without having to spend time wading through details that have not changed from last month, and we don't want to miss any of the changes. Easiest for us to work with is a list of casinos with changes marked in an obvious manner.

Amounts Paid, By Location
Here are the amounts we currently are paying for blackjack news from various locations. The amounts are per location, and not per casino. They are for reporting on every casino in a given location. We pay even if the report is that conditions have not changed, because a report of no change allows us to attach a new date to that location. We pay within a few days of publication.

Hi Al, how would Las Vegas work? Is it split up among several people for different areas? And are there any openings for a reporter in Vegas?

Las Vegas is split into five areas. We presently are well-covered in all five, and have a backup reporter, too. We appreciate your interest.

Al, do reporters get a discount on a CBJN subscription?
No. We've tried various types of trade-outs and discounts and eventually found it works best for everyone if reporters are paid for their reports, and we are paid for the final product. Thanks for your interest.
