How often does the dealer shuffle?

#1
Hi, I'm currently writing some software that automates play very quickly using basic strategy for statistical purposes. I've scoured the web and nowhere can I seem to find rules that dictate how often the dealer shuffles.

Obviously, the dealer shuffles a deck more often than a shoe, but is there rhyme or reason to when he shuffles or does he shuffle whenever he feels like it?

Thanks for any help.

In a shoe game, the dealer inserts a cut card at a point that is generally within the house's predetermined area. For example, a particular casino may have the policy where 1.5 decks of a 6-deck shoe are cut...but, each dealer and each new shuffle will produce different results.

So, there really is no good universal answer. But some others around here may give you a good estimation to build off of.

good luck

In a single or double deck game, you are lucky if the dealer deals 75% of the cards before the shuffle. Many places shuffle at about 50%.

I have dealers at a casino I frequent who cut 2 decks off, and a few who cut 1 deck off. So it can vary from dealer to dealer in the same place.

EDIT: I guess you're looking more for info on 1 and 2 deckers. Nevermind me. :)

75% seems relatively good these days in a shoe game. There's really no reason to play a shoe that is cutting off more than that.

good luck

I played an Indian casino last month where they were cutting almost 2 decks for 6 d. shoe, and 50% at DD. Lots of tables and everyone I saw was doing same. (Wonged a LOT). Same casino two weeks ago, and they were cutting a bit less than 1 for shoes, and about a quarter on DD. Someone also asked about shuffling procedure (how they actually did the hand shuffles on the few that they didn't have auto shufflers at) and the dealer told them that they just changed the shuffle procedure, as they try to do every year or so.

In short, I guess the answer to your question is- "It Depends"

i had a question for you jj, which is better for a card counter, 6 decks or 8 decks, IF they both have 1.5 deck penetration.. i would guess they would be about = because the penetration % is higher on the 8 deck, 81% vs 75%, but on the other hand 6 decks is better normally

lemme nose in here silent.
actually the six deck would still be better in this case. uhmm i say that because i ran a sim to check it. but what i think is that at some point if you keep decreasing the penetration by equal amounts that it would get to the point where the eight deck became superior. probably down near 55% for the six deck.

which is why i tend to stay away from AC and Majestic Star.

Just as DD is better than Shoe (in general)
other things being equal 6 deck is better than 8 deck.

now resorts is a better gaming experience than horseshoe or MStar, but I do understand it is a further drive from Chicago.

what I don't get about DD is how am I supposed to be an AP, if I can't see the cards from the previous / post hands in a round?

so at this point I only play DD with friends where we can look at each others cards and "ask" for advice

actually, the majestic star, horseshoe, and resorts are all the same distance from chicago (horseshoe is about 3 minutes closer).. and secondly, ive been to all 3 casinos in nw indiana, and i still say the majestic would be the best IF it had 6 deck on the main floor, and heres why.. the majestic star gives great comps from what ive been told on here (i listed the comps i got for $10 flat betting and most said im lying), and boat #1 is wide open and its light in there.. i dont know about you guys but i hate when the casino is dark and cramped like the horseshoe and resorts; i much prefer 30-40 foot ceilings and light.. and if you think the majestic star is no dif in lighting than the other 2, then you clearly went on the majestic star II, not I (on your right).. in terms of actual quality and newness (i cant think of a better non made up word), the other 2 are better, but the majestic star has and currently is making it better (they damn well better because they are making a lot more money now due to the MURDERING of their video poker pay tables, draft beer, free buffet, and other things), but its not shitty in any means.. and they have windows!.. ill put it this way, where would you rather play blackjack.. outside in a nice area in the shade when its 70 degrees out, or inside a nice club/bar that is dark? id prefer outside, and its a fact that the sun makes you more happy, and darkness makes you more depressed anyways.. if you argue that, then go look up S.A.D... with all this said, im gonna be playing at all 3 casinos depending on the time (its $5, $10, or $15 table minimums depending on the time and casino in nw indiana)
