So how is everyone doing during this crap?

It is going on 2 months for me since my former life of spending time and eating every day at a casino. Seems more like 2 years. I also have spent the last 3 weeks completely inside, not even getting out for some exercise, because I got sick. I am nearly recovered now and am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. I think Vegas is getting ready to re-open, although there has been no announcement, probably mid May, before Memorial day. Probably casinos, along with sporting events, concerts, Disneyworld, or any large gathering should be the very last things to re-open, and probably shouldn't until they have discovered a vaccine, but what should happen and what is going to happen are 2 different things.

Initially I thought I wanted no part of going back into casinos any time soon. But that was before I got sick. Once I am over the last of a few lingering symptoms, I would like to get tested for anti-bodies, and am hoping that will provide me some at least short-term immunity, although there are currently conflicting opinions on that. But if that is the case, I will be heading to the casinos on opening day. I think there may be some short-term opportunities for a player like me, with what is likely to be fewer players at each table and higher limits. Players will be required to wear masks and pit personnel are likely to have some new, non traditional responsibilities keeping them busy. So I want to take advantage of any such opportunities.

Longer term, I fear some changes that won't be beneficial like a move away from chips, to some sort of TITO terminal at the table, and/or even more stadium type BJ terminals (which can be spaced out) and combine a live dealer with a TITO system. Going to such a system also benefits the casino because they can have one dealer for many players. This covid-19 outbreak will provide cover for such a move.

So how is everyone else doing? How have you spent your time? Anyone use the past month plus, to change counts? :D Any other ideas of how things may change for us going forward?

Hey KJ - Glad to hear things are coming along. It's been a boring time. Had a big international trip cancelled. I should have been returning just about now. Also, just got an email from an airline cancelling another trip I had planned for the Fall. Getting my money's worth from netflix this month. Regards from the Big Apple. ;)

BORED!! I had planned on hitting the tables this Spring much harder than the past few years. I had some fun new plans etc.
Still in a holding pattern I guess.
I too will be back on tables as soon as they reopen. I do believe there will be good opportunities, not the least of which will be much less crowded conditions. Hell that is one of the most important things for any AP.
If casinos do try to remove chips, or more stadium BJ I hope that we all protest forcefully.

"I too will be back on tables as soon as they reopen."

Well, then, you had better hope they don't open too soon, as the morons in Las Vegas are proposing.

Here are some numbers concerning total deaths in the U.S. that I saw yesterday.

March 1 - 2 deaths
April 1 - 4800 deaths
May 1 - we will be over 60,000 deaths.

I am just confused as to how that shows we are over any kind of hump and ready to re-open.

I hope no one is confusing my comments were I said, once I am fully recovered (and I am getting pretty close, with just a couple very slight symptoms and fever) that I would return to casino after an antibody test confirming some level and period of immunity, with the idea that I am in favor of Las Vegas re-opening. I am not. I believe a place like Las Vegas and casinos in general, should be among the last businesses / locations to open. But if I am immune and they are open and opportunities as believe there will be....I am there.

Buy the way, we are in the upper 90's this week, forecast to hit 100 degrees on Wednesday, the earliest ever and first time in April ever. And I think we all heard somewhere that heat and sunlight kills the virus, so we should be good to go.

There's no heat or sunlight in the casinos. I suspect 95% of transmission occurs indoors.

Also, the UV/heat thing isn't based on any evidence, as there are plenty of infection in New Orleans, Florida, The COngo (on the equator), etc. Try not to equate anything the moron-in-chief says with fact.

Things have been tough for me. Morale is low. My projected losses per day are $300-400. The COVID-19 shut down has cost me over $10,000 thus far and that number is growing daily.

$15,900 in projected losses due to COVID-19 government shut down. Projected losses growing daily.
ZERO Dollars in unemployment.
ZERO Dollars in Stimulus Check.

I am sorry you have having a rough time JohnCrover.

Your "projected losses" doesn't really work that way. Almost everyone, no matter what they do for a living has lost their income. Ap's are just part of the many.

As far as the stimulus payment of $1200, I don't know your situation and why you didn't get one. Near as I can tell only those with an income of greater than 100k didn't qualify. If you are in that group, it is hard to feel too much sympathy for you not receiving it. And it isn't as though $1200 is going to change all that much or hold you for long anyway.

As far as unemployement, based on what you have told us, you should qualify under the expanded eligibility for self employed and gig workers. I qualify. Haven't received any money yet, but I did receive my plastic debit card from the unemployment office, so I am well on my way to riches.

Near as I can tell, most states are still working on that expanded eligibility thing. They were unprepared for that kind of change to the system. If they haven't yet figured it out here in Nevada, as per professional gamblers collecting, they probably are clueless everywhere else, as I would think we have more professional gamblers here. But our Governor assures us that we will all get back money once they get it figured out which is supposed to be by mid May.

So if your state is in similar situation, at least you have the benefit of having money to use, your bankroll, while you wait and you should be able to replace that bankroll money once you get your money (including back money). A lot of people have nothing to fall back on.

BYW, I am not really sure professional gamblers should qualify for unemployment. That is one of the things you are responsible for when you choose to gamble for a living. But on the other hand, the casinos aren't open for us to make our living. So the government said we are eligible. So I will take what they want to give me.

What are the odds that some of the sleazy Vegas casinos with have promos to cash those benefits for you (liek they do with SS checks), once they reopen?

Yeah, don't even get me started with that!

Aren't fuel prices down at the moment? what more do you want?

So just watched Gov Sisolak's (Nevada) news conference. Some businesses are allowed to open this Saturday, including dining in restaurants @ 50% occupancy. Casinos will remain closed. First question asked was: Some casinos are making plans to be open by Memorial day weekend. Is that unrealistic. The governor responded that Nevada Gaming was in charge of deciding when casinos could open. he said he wouldn't want to speculate when that would be. That wasn't exactly a "no". Memorial day weekend is only 2 weeks away.

KJ, if you don't mind could you give a brief description of what to expect for what an individual goes through when contacting the covid19 virus. I realize that people who catch it have been affected differently with varying degrees of illness. Just trying to get an idea of what to expect if my wife or I catch it, thanks.

Seems a little odd that you are requesting this Bosox, because I have detailed what my symptoms are/were on another forum that you participate on. Also, as you stated it effects different people completely differently. For example my brother basically had cold symptoms, with just a little chest tightness for about a week. I no doubt got it from him as I got sick about 5 days after him and I had worse symptoms than him, but never real severe. Never to the point of going to ER or anything.

For me, it started with a fever and very achy all over my body. The next morning I woke up with a headache, still had fever. Then I started to get tightness in my chest. Mostly it felt like someone was standing behind me with their arms wrapped around me and were squeezing. this went on for about a week. During the day mild or almost no symptoms. At night, higher fever and worse symptoms. A couple of the nights the tightness was pretty bad. I would call it pain with each breath. BUT, it never felt like I couldn't catch my breath, like some people had. I also never had a temp of more than 100.4. A lot of people reported temps of 102-103 degrees.

The other odd symptom was extreme fatigue. I was already staying home not doing a damn thing but I was exhausted. slept 9-10 hours at night, took a nap for another 3-4 hours in the afternoon, and still would fall asleep watching TV. Some days I just couldn't keep awake. I also had stomach and intestinal issues for about a day and a half.

So after about 9 days I started to feel better. It was a weekend and I felt pretty good Saturday and Sunday. Assumed I was over it and then Monday it all came back for another week, no worse, but no better than the first go around. With many people this second go-round was where they got really sick and ended in the hospital. I was worried about this, but it didn't happen. And then after that second week, I started improving and almost everything went away except the extreme fatigue. I still have some of that. Not as bad and not everyday, but still seem to get tired out doing not much of anything.

One thing I did, and I have no way of knowing whether it helped or not, but as soon as I started having the tightness in my chest and knew it was in my lung (it was only one side with me, so one lung I guess), I started doing deep breathing exercises, just about every hour, pretty religiously. That is supposed to help fight off any kind of pnemonia.

Also, neither my brother nor I got tested for the virus initially. Several other people in our building had it and were tested, so we were pretty sure. But after if came back on me the second week, I decided, because I have an existing heart condition, I should check with my doctor and see if there was anything special I should be doing. That is when he insisted I be tested.

Thank you, that was very helpful but also scary, to say the least. I will be staying away from the casinos when they reopen possibly for the whole year.
