Have you ever been backed off at Caesar’s Windsor?

    Thread title says it all.

I am moving to Windsor (about 2km/1mi up the rd from the casino) and I plan to start playing as early as July. My only concern is that I come from Ottawa, playing at Lac Leamy in Hull, and they have 0 measures vs counters.

Last time I was there, I quickly realized that their games were so crummy that there should be no reason for countermeasures. I really think one would be a fool to go there with the intention of straight-counting. (I admit, however, that I haven’t been in the HL room).

Are you speaking of Windsor or Lac Leamy?

  • Southpaw

I was speaking of CW. I have never been to Lac Leamy. The blackjack on the main floor at CW is piss poor, and not worth the time, IMO. Nevertheless, I have heard that this is the case for many Canadian casinos, so perhaps you’ve already been baptized in fire.

But really, if I was a floor-person there, and I saw someone grinding away with straight-counting, I would probably just giggle to myself. Floor persons are known to be stupid, so they may incorrectly perceive CC’ing on their games as something grave; therefore, one should be careful nonetheless.

Casino Windsor was the scene of one of my most brutal barrings ever, about 10 years ago. I was detained by gaming agents for more than 5 hours while they tried to think up every possible reason they could, to arrest me (unsuccessfully of course). Then when I got through the tunnel into the U.S., I was detained & repeatedly questioned and searched for another 5 hours by U.S. Customs; during which time one of the Customs agents slipped up & admitted that they had received a call from the casino, telling them I would be smuggling money across the border. Luckily for me, I had given all of the winnings to a Canadian friend to hold onto. (The fact that they found almost NO money on me was what pissed them off even WORSE)

The casino manager of Casino Windsor is probably the sorest loser I have ever encountered in my whole career!

I had been to Casino Windsor once some time ago (I can’t remember when it became Caesar’s Windsor but it was before that) and it had a bit of a reputation for being risky for AP. From what I’ve heard it’s a lot different these days, which is a good thing given the story you’ve related :O

In response to Spaw’s comment about the game rules, I have never been lucky enough to play outside of Canada, so the rules here are what I’m used to

I think last time I played at CW the conditions at the 10$ table I found were

    – 8 deck shoe, ~75% pen.
    – Double after split
    – Double on any 2 cards (including double and insure for less)
    – No surrender
    – Dealer Stands on all 17
    – Blackjack pays 3:2

The side bet at that table was Lucky Ladies, which if I’m not mistaken is probably the best of the side bets…it at least seems that way.

The sad thing is, that’s what passes for a good game in AC now. Don’t worry, it can be beaten. You’re just going to have to work quite hard to beat it.

From what I’ve been reading I figured it was beatable, and truth be told I don’t expect to make money hand over fist here (although it’d be nice…heh). I am willing to put in as much time as I need to in order to at least have a relatively stable bankroll that will enable me to play the game I love.

I know this has gotten off topic by now so…

Being in Windsor, I have the option to also play at MGM Detroit, MotorCity Casino and…I keep thinking there’s a third, can’t remember it though. Any comments on any of those?

  • Sucker

The third Detroit casino is Greektown. And if you want to drive 60 miles north of Windsor; Sarnia (Sister city of Port Huron) also has a casino, right next to the Blue Water Bridge. Windsor, Detroit, Sarnia – ALL of these casinos have playable games, but you might want to learn some of the more slightly advanced techniques, other than just straight counting.

Greektown has a fine HL room and MGM can be fine also. But $25 min at those games, 6d. I like GT.

You are within striking distance of some fine games, don’t fret.

When will you be in the area?

I’m finishing up a 5 month work contract in northern Alberta then I am moving back for good. Supposedly I’m being granted some time off for the first week of July to go there as well.

The TH team was arrested and charged back when the place first opened around 1994. I’ve personally witnessed a few trespassings there, but they’ve all involved self-excluded persons that were playing. Since the OP has never been backed off before, I would think your style of play won’t draw any more attention in the Detroit area.

I read the story about Tommy a week ago, it made me pretty nervous just from the level of ineptitude the casino’s staff and “expert witness” showed, though I do I understand that 1994 and 2011 are much, much different times.

I don’t know Tommy, although I WAS aware of his case at the time. MY incident happened a few years after his did. At least I was lucky enough to not get ARRESTED, even though that jackass of a casino manager was DEMANDING that the gaming agent DO so. Probably BECAUSE of the Tommy incident, the agent was smart enough to know that it was not a good idea to arrest someone without any evidence of illegal activity.

Casino Windsor did back me off. Of course I was employing a 160-1 spread to crush their games and played for a few days in a row, eight + hour sessions. Actually I think their games are quite fine for a beginner. Yes, they do offer H17, but that isn’t so bad at the higher counts, and they have a million tables you can so easily wong around in. You might get a little dizzy from circling like a vulture.

    1-160 spread?

You are a very sick man.
