Please don't get me wrong > card counting does work .if it didn't casinos would not care . However since I am unwilling to wong it out as some of you guys suggest ,my bank roll will not. I play at a casino dealing out of a 6 deck shoe & I swear guys I do believe I lose more waiting for the right count . When it does come ,the dealer is flopping um over like crazy. A lot of times the fist deck is loaded with face cards ,so that gives me a minus count that is hard to overcome . I am going back to playing BS & money management . I will give them the .5% ,counting comps thats not bad. Now If they have a single deck game on this cruise i'm going on & they did 2 yrs back ,then of course I'm back. POGO. OH! craps don't pass ,don't come ,keep them coming ever throw of the dice & never give odds LOL

From what I've read about cruise lines, short shoes, and lack of oversight, they may actually have a double deck game - but it looks like a single deck since they've removed so many cards :laugh::eek:

Variance is very high straight counting so I can't say I blame you for giving up.

I give it up all the time

I quit every chance I get.

  1. Drive to casinos and park.
  2. Head to first/next game.
  3. Back count or minimum-bet while waiting for opportunities: lose most doubles and splits while placing minimum bets.
  4. Raise bet if count grows: draw mostly stiffs; if hand is decent, watch dealer draw to 20 or 21.
  5. Cash out at end of beating.
  6. Quit counting for good.
  7. If enough cash and motivation remains, go to step 2.
  8. Go home.

I'll probably quit counting 20-40 times this weekend, depending on my Sunday schedule. I currently go to the casino with no expectation of breaking even. The past few sessions have been good training, because I no longer have bad thoughts while driving home after a loss. Why think about losing, when it's so frequent as to be boring?

Ah come on, last session I just plopped down at a table with 10 units, and two hours later walked out with 140 units. Countings awesome!

To the OP. Have you never heard of wonging. It would address all you problems that would be solved by giving up counting.
This is an under-appreciated aspect of play for new counters.

Anyone in possession of an IQ over 105 who reads three decent blackjack books, and a healthy sample of the archives on this site, should understand the necessity of bankroll management, the need for discipline in getting the money out, the unimportance of quitting while ahead, and the harsh psychological aspect of high variance.

But the boredom and grind of Wonging doesn't get the emphasis it deserves. Some days I feel as if I'm on my feet the whole time, with only a few stretches at shoes that won't drop to my Wong-out point but never get particularly juicy either. There are plenty of 90-minute stretches with nary a high count in sight. It's not psychologically tough, but it is surprisingly boring.

You wrote this at 9:52AM on May 13. A fair time has passed already and there has been no recant nor explanation. The Elders of the Tribe consider your statement strikes plumb at the heart of the Card Counting community; particularly coming from one of such (formerly) high standing. They also consider it to be rank blasphemy and heresy.

A quick puter whip-around of the Elders saw 197 vote for impeach and 6 against, with 3 abstaining. (Aslan, Shad and InPlay abstained, because they said they 'like' you. I like you too, but WTF has that got to do with it?)

You can pack your bags for 3 weeks; plenty of time for you to consider your cc position. You are banned, as from today. Have a nice time at InPlay's favorite Siberian casino. :)
