Luck Ladies

At many casinos they offer a side bet sometimes referred to as "Lucky Ladies" where you bet that you will get 20 on your first 2 cards. Does anyone know if this is a good bet and/or what the odds are of winning this?

Probably depends if you are counting or not. I imagine if you know that the count is likely to produce some 10s, then it would be a good bet. Otherwise, I doubt it would be the go.

The Wizard has covered this side bet. It's a monster house edge of over 20%. However, something the Wizard doesn't mention is that this bet is very volatile, and occasionally offers a large player edge based on the remaining deck composition. At one time, there were documents posted somewhere on the Web that talked about beating it, but I think they were all finally removed by the authors.

Here's the Wiz info:

Royal Marriage

I was probably at the tables at the Plaza this past week for at least 12 hours a day. Most of that time I was at a table that offered the following: 25:1 with a $2-$100 side bet not to exceed your bet on the hand if you got a Suited King/Queen on your first two cards. You were paid 2.5:1 on any suited first two cards. I saw the King/Queen come up three or four times during my stay but never saw anyone have a bet out when it happened. I saw several players consistantly making the bet and of course, saw them win the 2.5:1 payout but they were definitely loosing money on it. I think this table called it a "Royal Marriage" side bet.

Side Bets

Fitzgeralds in Tunica allows players to side bet a $1.00 on any hand for a Blackjack, then if you win the dealer hands you with a button and a Simulator comes up with a number and you are paid on it. Most of the winners were paid under 10 bucks but one lady won 33. The dealers there are lot of fun .If you ever get a chance I highly recommend Tunica, MS. There are about 8 or 9 casinos there. We always stay at the Grand Casino, $45/per nit on sun-thur.
Good Luck to all.

I have played this side bet at times when the table allows. Some days I do well and some I don't. I start playing it if I get my bankroll up a bit and then I usually win enough times to keep this bet up without breaking another $5 chip into $1's.

Up here at the Cascades Casino, there are different winning odds; 4:1 for any 20, 9:1 for suited 20, 19:1 for suited pair of 20, and 125:1 for a pair of Queen of Hearts and if the dealer has a blackjack when you have the Queen of Hearts pair it is 1000:1. The dealers and players have told me that people who win the Queen of hearts pair are the ones that play this side bet always. It has happened quite a few times at the casino and a few times when the dealer has had a BJ.

I played this side bet off and on last week and didn't do well. Near the end of my chips/stay I stopped playing the side bet and I got the Queen of hearts pair! It's tough when you get it and you were playing this bet off and on. I think you have to either play it always or not play it at all. It's an awful feeling when you stop playing this bet and then get the ladies.
