which basic strategy is right?

#1
I've read through several BJ books, and while they all show basic strategy (not modified basic or otherwise - at least as they state it), presuming DD after split permitted, they differ on several points, such as

1) with a hard 9:
a)hit 2, double 3-6
b)hit 2,3, double 4-6
c)hit double 2-6

2) with a hard 12:
a)hit 2,3, stand 4-6
b)stand 2-6

3) with A3:
a)hit 2-4, double 5,6
b)hit 2,3, double 4-6

4) with A6:
a)hit 2,3, double 4-6
b)double 2-6

5) with hard 11:
a)always double
b)double except against A

6) with 33 or 66:
a)split 7 and under
b)split 3-6, hit against 2
c)split 3-7, hit against 2
d) for 66 only - split 6 and under

7) with 22:
a)split 7 and under
b)split 4-6, hit against 2,3

8) with 44:
a)never split
b)split against 5 only
c)split against 5,6

9) with 77:
a)split 7 and under
b)split 8 and under

Phew! I think that's all the differences I've found.

Doesn't leave basic so basic. These are all current books (read them at Barnes & Noble). Whose right?

Strategy chart is always determined by HOUSE RULES

Netto,

The reason you're finding so many conflicts between Basic Strategy charts is because the BEST Basic Strategy for a given casino/tournament is always determined by the # of DECKS being used, as well as ALL of the HOUSE RULES (double after split allowed/not allowed/whether or not the dealer hits soft 17, etc.)

* * *
For instance, in a 1-Deck game of BJ you should always double with an 11, even if the dealer has an ace....but NOT if the casino is using 4-8 DECKS!...Every player should play according to a BS chart created speicifically for HIS casino's rules.
(The only casino in my state uses 6 decks, double after split allowed, dealer stands on soft 17, no surrender, double allowed on any two cards, maximum of 4 splits in a given hand).
* * *

SO, the best way to find outwhich chart YOU should use is to customize a Basic Strategy chart using Ken Smith's "Basic Strategy Engine" to suit the rules at the casino where you play. (there's a link on the left of the main page of this site...blackjackinfo.com. Or follow this link:

I hope this helps you out....

Happy gaming,

I'm still stuck on 3 points - against a multi-deck shoe.

With the pair 4,4 do you split against a dealer 5 only or against a dealer 5 or 6?

With the pair 6,6 do you split against dealer 3-6 or 3-7?

With the pair 7,7 do you split against dealer 2-7 or 2-8?

Thanks!!!

3 Points

recheck the strategy engine with the number of decks you use. If you can DAS you should split 2-3-5-6 vs a dealer 6. Split 7's 2-7 and split 4's vs. 5-6.
If you can't double after split, there are changes with these hands.

Tedloc, you may want to check that. 2 and 3 split vs. 2-7

4 splits vs. 5, 6

5 does NOT split. 5-5 doubles against anything but an ace.

6 splits vs. 2-6

7 splits vs. 2-7

8 and A always split.

9 splits against everything except dealer 7, 10, 11

I play with a 6 deck/DAS/Double any 2 Cards/Dealer Hit s17/Late Surrender at the Valley View in San Diego (indian Casino)>
I split 2-3 against 2-7. I think this is the correct play if you can double after the split.

The only irregularity with my card is dealer hitting s17, but I highly doubt that would affect so many plays. Otherwise, my rules are identical but my card is not.

I'd sure like to know which one of us is correct... because I know we both aren't.

I do know that when I use my Palm Blackjack Mentor and the simulator on this site, my tables are correct. But I am not posting a response to get into a pissing match, and as my sig says, I am relatively inexperienced.I'm just trying to make sure the information is correct, regardless of which one of us is right.
