Going to Detroit at the end of May!

#1
I am going to Detroit in about a month, and I am curious about the casinos. I always play the shoe games because I ahve a $5000 BR and don't feel it's big enough to play the other games. I am curious about which casino might be the best for me up there. What kind of penetration do they have? Do they have a lot of tables, and should I be concerned about heat? What kind of side bets do they have? The particular game rules too if you have it, but I can probably look up that part on line? Any info. here would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You!

I think last time I was there, the Fri or Sat after Thanksgiving, I went to Greektown. They had $10 tables in the afternoon. Went to $15 later. I think it was S17 but not sure. A bunch of CSM's but some auto-shufflers too and regular shoes. I doubt if u would get any heat at those tables. Not sure about mid-shoe entry either since that's the last thing I want to do. I can't even remember if it was 6 or 8 deck.

I did like that the tables had 2 betting spots for each seat. You could bet one or both. Don't know why more places don't do that - increase the action. Never seen that anywhere else. I mean all you have to do is draw another circle on the felt. So for you that might be good. Up to 12 or 14 hands a round. Think it was a 6 seat table not sure. Maybe even only 5 seats. You may have been required to bet more than the minimum if u played both spots - don't remember. My nephew played both spots. Didn't lose both spots for over an hour. Went up $600. Went to the crap table and lost it all. He bets too big lol.

Wife went to crappy pay-table 3-card poker tables. It wasn't enough for her to win $100 playing BJ - it was "too boring". I was allowed to go home after she finally lost all her money there playing the stupid Pair-Plus bet against my advice. What a shocker she never listens to me lol.

I won my usual $60-$70 bucks in the 3-4 hours. Whoppee. I think u have to pay for drinks. Also, as usual, I can't remember.

Spanish 21 has crappy rules too.

I suspect MGM and Motor City aren't too different but it's been even longer since I've been to either one.

I am definately not into the csm's. Automatic shufflers would be OK. With the minimum going up to $15 at night, I suppose I would definately have to backcount since I am working with a $5000 BR. I use a $5 unit. That size is just fine out here. Things sound a little tougher out that way.

Anybody else have any info for the casino BJ games in Detroit?

If nobody else helps you here, try http://www.detroityes.com . It is not a gambling site but I'm sure some of their many members go to the casinos there and can answer your questions. There is also the Windsor Casinio on the Canadian side there. I think all three Detroit casinos are building even bigger venues there right now.

Kasi's report on Greektown is similar in the other Detroit casinos last time I was up there...Motor City and MGM are the others. Greektown is the nicest and most interesting venue, I'd have to say. You do have to buy your own drinks in Detroit and in Windsor.

In Windsor, I haven't been there in a few years, but the dealers are kinda rude. The games were OK from what I remember, but most tables in the weekend evenings were $15. Of course, that's Canadian, but the exchange rate isn't what it used to be 5 years ago. That's a nice casino too...I believe they've even done some renovations within the last couple years. Maybe non-smoking now, but you need your birth certificate I think to get back if you go.

good luck

I was there this past week.

Do not waste your time, the games are horrid.

First off, I don't remember Casino Windsor. But I stopped by Motor City, Greektown, and MGM Grand this past week. The most playable game was at MGM Grand, but even that was a pile of dog crap.

the Rules were pretty consistent:

EITHER
A few 8 deck but mostly CSM
DAS, DOA, split 3 times No Surrender
Dealer HITS soft 17 on just about ALL Tables (including Spanish 21)
The only Stand on all 17 I saw was at the $50 min bet mark.

Penetration levels:
Motor City: 60%
MGM Grand : 70%
Greektown: 60%

MGM did offer a Single Deck 6 to 5 and a double exposure. Neither was open when I was there though.

Table limits $ 15, 20, 25 minimum were pretty prevalent on a Wednesday night. I saw ONE $10 table at each.

Ploppy heat was high. A lot of grouchy players. I did play for a little bit at Greektown.. but more out of the fact that I didn't want to jump into rush hour traffic. Dealers weren't very friendly either

Expect to pay parking at Greektown as well.

Sidebets are for Perfect pairs and also "double spot" blackjack. Which is basically each player has two spots to play. Anything to get the $$ faster.

And to top it all off, none of the casinos are in the best neighborhood.

I would avoid these casinos, spend time doing something else. Like throwing $$ out of your hotel window. It has higher EV.

But, hey, I think I can smoke there lol. Not sure, but I don't think you can smoke anywhere in Canada anymore. I'll never cross the border again between ID checks, exchange rates and bridge tolls. Used to go a couple times a year. Krike, you probably lose 6% just changing your money back and forth. They always ask me if I have any tobacco or alcohol while I'm smoking a cig and I never know quite what to say. One time taking a bus to Niagara in Canada, the guy comes on and asks if anybody has any alcohol - tell the truth or confiscate it and send u to jail. I was the only one who raised my hand because I had a half-pint not in my suitcase. Then I show it to him and he says, that's OK. I felt so alcoholic lol. And soon I'll need a $90 passport just to cross the border.

Like you say probably not a great place for a counter but I don't know where is on the East Coast. But, if you are, at least you don't have to worry about spreading to 2 spots!

Hey, on this double spot stuff, is there more variance playing 2 $5 spots than 1 $10 spot?
