If he doesn't play negative counts he should be fine. I never spread more than 5 units but I make sure to never play with a count less 0.

Only played blackjack for 6 weeks in 2009 with an advantage so it's not a complete year. Got 30 hours of play in and off to a nice start. I've definitly gained faith in counting. 2010 I hope to move up to the next bracket.
