Discussion of other BJ Forum Sites

Not that this has gained much traction, but OGG is pretty slow and there's barely any expertise in there - like maybe 1-2 good APs, plus a few borderline AP/ploppies like me. Unless there were a concerted move, I doubt it'd be of use to people seeking good information. If there's a concerted...

    Boards closing, discussion

I heard about this board closing and I want to say that I'm sad to see it go. I haven't really participated in about 2 years (since I started playing more poker than blackjack) but it's always been my #1 site to refer people to when they ask about BJ. There's a lot of awesome information in...

    Blackjack vs Texas Holdem'

Actually, I do take that into account (scaling), but at small stakes games it's not that most people who try lose at poker, it's that a lot of people don't try very hard. Most people know that when they coldcall your preflop raise with 75o they're underdogs, they simply don't care. It's fun...

Barack Obama tells Americans 'don't go to Las Vegas'

True, but nobody's advocating the government taking all your money, or even half. The Laffer Curve stipulates that the best tax rate is somewhere between 0% and 100%, not that the best tax rate is 0%, and experimental evidence suggests that if the curve even exists, we're near the top, and in...

    Blackjack vs Texas Holdem'

I disagree. If you play a very basic game of blackjack, let's say one that someone reasonably intelligent could pick up in a few hours, EV = +0.01, SD = 2.5, your SCORE is 16. If you play a very basic game of limit Hold'Em SSHE-style, EV = +0.03 (1 BB/hr), SD = 2.5 (15 BB/hr). Accounting...

Barack Obama tells Americans 'don't go to Las Vegas'

While the general concept of the Laffer Curve is a decent idea, most people who invoke it are idiots. (1) The Laffer Curve, for those who are unaware, is an upside-down U which represents the tax collected as a function of tax rate. At low tax rates, people produce a lot but you collect very...

    Index variation inconsistencies?

Whoops, sorry, I misread the OP. I thought he was asking why I18 lists are different.

    Index variation inconsistencies?

Although they all refer to TC, the different TC's are not weighted the same and indices will change depending on your spread. The I18 for someone with a 1:4 spread Wonging will be slightly different than the I18 for someone with a 1:20 spread play all. For example, if you're Wonging out at...

    Online Poker

I wouldn't call myself a "serious" online player. I got $2 in free money from Pokerstars and I'm grinding my way up the LHE ladder (currently 5c/10c). I'm pretty sure NL is better than LHE in terms of fish, but my style of play is more mathematical so LHE suits me a little better.

    Back-counting (Wonging) doesn't work.

Sometimes I wish that backcounting were less popular so that people who do it wrong don't screw it up for people who do it right.

$5,000 bucks to become a blackjack pro!

As far as I know, he didn't. I'm not entirely sure MIT's name is being used in the promotions. Is it being billed as "the MIT method" or "Blackjack Course taught by the MIT team"? MIT can't do much about the latter, although they can certainly stop the former.

    Got caught card counting today

How often you play should be a function of how good of a game you're able to find. Charging out to play crappy games because only crappy games are available is a recipe for disaster, if it's not a sign of a gambling problem. There are no good games in the SF Bay Area. I think the Cache...

I don't know how you pros do it 40 hrs a week

I'm guessing some AP's wonder how us "regular" people can sit in cubes and sit in corporate pep talk meetings for 40 hours a week. :) What would you say you do here at Initech?
