    Rules Vary Table-to-Table!

My personal experience of late, having just returned to the playing environment after a ten year absence, is that the rules vary from table to table in a lot of places. The variance, at least as I've noticed, is driven by the table limit. The most "player friendly" rules seem to be at the...

Does anyone here keep their bankroll in chips?

I don't like to keep chips. For me I just don't like carrying something around that I could easy misplace. Probably my problem but that's me. I also find changing chips back into cash a better money management tool for me. Again, probably my problem but it works for me.

black jack vs getting a job

I never really gave much thought to trying to make a living playing BJ. I've done well at times and I've done not so well. I'm happy I made that decision years and years ago to pick and stick with a non-gambling profession. Today I have a nice retirement that's not stock market or Social...

    3 Cards Equal 11...

Any of us who have played a lot over the years sees this kind of thing happen. Sometimes....maybe most of the time....it's a disaster and you're the witness to the "train wreck". The times they win, and that happens too, you just sit or stand there shaking your head. The certain knowledge is...

    3 Cards Equal 11...

This reminds me of the lady who sat down at our table and wouldn't hit any two card combination. Her husband told her she'd "bust" if she did.

2nd Base: Wimbledon Head Movements, Cat Clock Eyes, & More.

I've always thought it was pretty natural to watch all the cards come out so I don't worry too much about it. Of course, my seat of preference is third base and it's not an issue to watch the card flow.

Sitting out til the count is positive...........

There may be some casinos in Vegas that do that but not all. I've done it and I've seen others sit out a hand or more and never one word about coming back into the game during the same shoe.

Basic Strategy Cards at the table

I'd much rather have a player use a card than go on "feelings" or some kind of hunch. Most places, maybe all now, in Vegas don't say anything and it's been awhile since I've even heard another player say something about using a BS card. As Shadroch said though, you'll catch a table with a...

How long till I would be comped

I'm not convinced there's a set of strict rules for comping. Yes, there are thresholds that pit bosses work under, obviously in terms of minimums, before they'll offer comps. After that then it's up to the individual pit boss whether he or she offers you anything. Over the almost 40 years...

    What's your second game?

Craps but certainly nowhere close to the time I spend at the BJ table.

    counter inteligance

To each their own. Sure, not all pit bosses know their game but many if not most do. Guess I've had different experiences with them than you have. Of course typically I usually only play in Vegas or AC, no telling what you run into at some of the other venues. In fact, I've played in Europe...

Counting or basic strategy for recreational players ?

I guess it depends on where you gamble in Vegas but I saw very little hand shuffling for double deck games a couple of weeks ago. They were hand shuffling single deck but that goes pretty fast and, of course, shoe games were all hand shuffled.

    counter inteligance

Keep your day job. For the most part there's very little that experienced pit bosses haven't seen and don't know about the games they oversee. Maybe some of the folks here are more clever or smarter than some pit bosses but I certainly don't think I am.

How much cash can you bring on plane?

Never had a problem with cash and that's up to nearly $40K a couple of years ago post-9/11. On that trip we were headed home via a stop-over in San Diego to visit my wife's parents. I did reduce the amount of cash by getting a couple of cashiers checks for under $10K a piece at my in-laws'...

    Back From Vegas

Just returned yesterday from a 3-7 July visit to Vegas. We stayed on the Strip and did not go downtown. We didn't spend a lot of time going up and down the Strip so my observations are based on visiting 5-6 places over the 4-day period. The most common game was 8-deck shoes. Most days these...
