Three men caught counting cards are arrested

Philadelphia Daily News

Huan Quan Yu, 59, Jiehui Huang, 49, and Raymond Li, 57 were arrested after a week-long investigation by Delaware State Police that began after casino employees and surveillance footage caught on to the trio's scheme. All three men are from New York, although they were carrying California driver's licenses when they were apprehended, officials said.

They face charges of criminal mischief, conspiracy and attempted theft, and officials suspect that the three are linked to a larger cheating network based in New York City and San Francisco.

Li and Huang were arraigned, released on bond and court-ordered against entering Delaware casinos. Yu posted bond, but is being held in connection to gaming crimes that he committed in Pennsylvania, and was sent to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, in Wilmington.

Why would he want to change the title of the copyrighted news story?? zg
I think you answered your own question and secondly from what I've read, they were caught marking the cards, not counting them.

Hi guys I just re-posted EXACTLY what I got from the Philadelphia Newspaper web site and it said "Card Counters" verbatim, however wrong that is that's what was printed by the newspaper.

I'm wondering how they used the chips to make indentation marks in the cards when the cards are usually dealt several inches away from the chips in the betting circle. Surely people would have noticed right away if they touched the cards or are they really that dumb!

I can think of ways of getting a mark using some sort of substance in a shoe games, but can't figure out a way to get a physical indent on the back side of a card. You can try indenting (deforming) the cards in front of you with your chips, but don't see how you can get away with that without the dealer noticing. Maybe that's why they got caught

was wondering how they got to touch the cards. No pitch games in DE or PA that I'm aware of.
They didn't touch the cards, This type of card marking is stereotypical of Chinese males (they have been doing it for decades) and what I'm about to say is unbelievable. What they do is find the right table conditions, Timid or easily manipulated dealer, Floor and PB not paying attention...then they start working themselves into a frenzy, being loud, shouting "Monkey", banging on the table...Then they take chip in their hand and blaintently slam the chip down on the selected card.

How they get away with it for any length of time is beyond me...Seems like an easy catch to me. Ive seen this done only twice and both times were in AC.

A possible scheme: When dealt a Blackjack, take a chip and press it hard against the Ace. Then tip the chip to the dealer. Keep the impression that this is a bizarre ritual when "celebrating". The dealer maybe won't complain as he gets the tip each time.

Thanks for the info exgriffinman, I was trying to figure it out, as most places that offer shoe games here on the East coast are extremely PARANOID about touching the cards. Appreciate the response.

You hit that one on the head too...Ive seen people hit the cards with a chip and then immediately after they indent the card, lay the toke down for the dealer ...It's a bit of an improvement than what these guys were allegedly doing...

amazing how wrong newspaper writers can be, huh.
Will have to admit that these guys are very stupid to think they could get away with something that blatant.
