A Word Of Caution About The K-O Specific Software

You won't believe this:

I bought the K-O specific software from http://www.koblackjack.com/ (Archive copy) about a month ago. On the site, they say their product includes "unlimited e-mail support for answering technical or blackjack strategy questions". (In fact, there are two links on the site: one for tech questions and one for BJ strategy questions.)

Long story short: over the last month, I've sent numerous emails requesting tech support to both emails (as a fail safe) and incredibly, every single one of my emails was completely ignored! Not a single response!

The website says it's run by "Dave Burdick (BurdickSoft) in collaboration with Ken Fuchs and Olaf Vancura". I checked the details on my statement and the purchase was transacted in the Netherlands by a company called GCBerkelley.Kagi.com. Luckily, I used Am-Ex and when I initiated a dispute they immediately refunded me the purchase price.

I'm just shocked that such highly-respected authors such as Vancura and Fuchs would associate themselves with this kind of company.

I've subsequently purchased Casino Verite (which is what I should have done in the first place)--of course by comparison, they have rapid response on-line support as well as a toll-free number.

Just was hoping this may save someone else some aggravation like I've experienced down the line.

I may be wrong but I don't think Fuchs and Vancura are involved at all with KO anymore, they probably sold off the rights. The software is also filled with bugs. As for Verite and all the Qfit products, the service is outstanding and I've always had my e-mails answered the same day.

Which software are you talking about? The 678 software or is there other software you bought? I have both the 678 software and casino verite' and have had no problems with either. I haven't tried to contact either of the tech help sites is that where the problem was? blackchipjim

Ken sold his rights to Anthony Curtis. Olaf is still half-owner. Strange history on the software. Ken asked me to write the software in 1995, before the book came out. I said OK, but they went with another company. They were unhappy with that company and switched to another later. They were also unhappy with that and eventually came back to me. I wrote a replacement for Olaf and Anthony. But they never got around to releasing it. Doesn't bother me. As a part of the contract I got perpetual rights to include KO in all my other software. The odd thing is that I now have rights to use KO in my software and I believe the "official" KO software no longer has these rights.

I will absolutely agree with your comments regarding Qfit/Verite - outstanding support!
