AC & Progression

#1
Hello all,

Just checking if I'm on the right track here...

Reading the 24 lesson beginners guide on this site, downloaded a few BJ apps including Card Counting and 21 Pro S.

I'm going to AC next month and I'm wondering what are good spots to play there. I believe most games are 8D, S17, 80% pen, no surrender. I know these aren't the greatest games to play, does anyone know what my advantage is with counting? Planning on using HI-Low unless KO is supposedly better.

Sorry for the n00b questions, just trying to see if I'm on the right track. Any suggestions for the next steps? I dont expect to even be marginally good in a month, but I'd like to be able to hold a count. I've almost got general strat down pat.

Thanks guys!

I would strongly recommend waiting until you have the confidence to play properly, the first time counting in a casino can be daunting for anyone, but if you're not confident going in, I'd suggest you're in trouble from the start.

If you've started learning HiLo from the blackjack school, I'd stick with that. Make sure you use a basic strategy engine in order to make sure you learn the correct strategy for the game you're playing. http://www.blackjackinfo.com/bjbse.php

If you haven't read any books on blackjack yet and aren't sure if you want to shell out $$$ for any just yet, Modern Blackjack by QFIT is available as a free eBook. http://www.qfit.com/book/index.htm HiLo is not covered in this book, but most of the info can be applied to whichever count you choose.

Most games are H17 with mediocre pen in AC. Resorts has S17 and good pen for low limit players according to the CBJN. The rest are H17 and mediocre pen unless you play high limit. Of course you can find a dealer cutting skinny anywhere but Resorts is 80% pen as reported by CBJN. I avoid the crappy games in AC. I have to drive through Delaware and Pennsylvania to get there. These states have much better games.

I agree with Aussie. Unless you are trying to get some experience at counting and understand you will probably still be playing at a disadvantage while counting due to making too many mistakes, stay home and practice your indices, counting, conversions and deck estimates.

Make the short trip to Philadelphia and enjoy better rules which will serve as a cushion for the errors that most newbies undoubtedly make.

Are you taking into consideration the full month or so of practice left? Or do you still feel I won't be ready by then.

I could have sworn Harrahs had some S17 tables @ $15 mins as of two months ago, I could be wrong.

Thanks for the rec's guys!

Not knowing your actual experience/practice level, I mainly based my advice on your self assessment.

You don't happen to be alluding to going to Parx do you? If so, I don't have a clue why you would condone going to play BJ there, terrible minimums and half the tables put the burned cards into an automatic shuffling machine. I would never trust those things a day in my life.

There's more than one casino in PHL. Also, there is nothing wrong with an ASM as long as you are just counting (in fact, they increase your win rate as your hands per hour will rise due to reduced shuffling time). You must be thinking of CSMs, which obviously card counters should avoid like the plague.

As for your statement about the Parx conditions, I've never been there personally, but the latest issue of CBJN disagrees with you. The rules are much better than what you'll find in AC (S17, LS), and the minimums are $10-$25 depending on when you're there.

There is also the Sugarhouse and Harrah's Chester.

Ahh ok, I knew there were other ones in the Phily area but I just have never been to them, maybe I should check them out. And these are definitely not just automatic shufflers like you see everywhere in AC, these are the big machines that stick out of a table and the dealer discards the played cards into it directly rather than into a discard tray.

And i had no idea they had surrender at Parx, that makes me reconsider some of my statements.
