Advice for newbies...limit your buy in

#1
Hello all...
just thought id share something that ive learned the hard way recently.

Rule 1 - learn perfect basic strategy...it gets you far.
but
Rule 2,- even with perfect BS and counting...I found if you dont limit your buyin you can lose big.

I built up about 4000 $ in 2 weeks, playing solid game...this was online though and I get tempted to play when Im bored.
Alas....I kept playing and hit losing streak after losing streak and kept playing till I was broke.

Maybe it wont happen to you but just in case...id suggest witdrawing cash everytime you make a lot.

Ive also been playing live for the last 5 weeks, same strategy but i limit my buy in to 400. Im up 2500 so far.
This has me covered for 5 bad consecutive runs , i go maybe 2 or 3 times a weekend so its unlikely that i lose 5 times in a row. generally if i win once i cover myself for another 2-8 possible bad runs.

Any tweaks/suggestions to this strategy is appreciated.
Thanks

What you are doing is slowing down the process of losing, if you play online you cannot gain any advantage over the house because the cards are shuffled every hand! You will eventually lose all your bankroll unless you play in land based casinos and can count cards against a shoe game. Counting online is useless.

So how does that go? $400 limit a couple of times a weekend? ..... every day? ........ few times a day? ... every hour?

Seems to me if it WORKS then the more often play the more you win.

We know good bankroll management is important to Advantage Play. It's probably a good idea if a recreational player goes with I'll buy in for $X if they can afford to lose that. Why do you think this will "work" in the long run? You're set for 5 loosing sessions now, how do you the next six won't be losers?

yes while that may be possible...it is unlikely.
If it does happen ill stop playing.

I thought you should keep playing whilst on a losing streak.

1. A losing streak sometimes means lots of low cards popping out, thus raising the count

2. If you have the advantage then the odds will even out and you will end up on top, so don't just stop when you are down.

3. Rebuying looks very good to the pit boss.. expect comps :)
