Any good Blackjack books I should read?

I have "Professional Blackjack" by Stanford Wong. I have memorized the charts applicable to my local casino, and been practicing on CVBJ for a while. I use the hi-lo count and am curious if there are some good books out there that might be worth my while to read!

There are a lot of great blackjack books, however the are some books that are best avoided as well. Simply go to the books and software on this site main page and you will find many if not all the books mentioned in this thread. All of which have breif reviews, and are all approved by our site administrator. My recommendation is Playing Like The Pros by Kevin Blackwood.

I just got done reading Bringing Down the House at 5 this morning. And started Beat the Dealer this afternoon. Bringing Down the House is great...but doesn't get into detail about "how to" in counting. Beat the Dealer seems like its got a lot of useful information so far.

Beat the Dealer is a nice history lesson, but it's not nearly as relevant today. I'd second Zengrifter's advice on this one, pick up a copy of Blackbelt in Blackjack. For me that is simply the best counting text. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of good books on the subject - all the one recommened so far are excellent - but i feel that BIB was so much better.

Avoid books by John Patrick. I read his latter book on blackjack and his advice was not math based, just based upon his opinions on everything. Also his tone in the book was so arrogant it made me want to vomit. The only things he did talk about that have any relevance were about bankroll managment. But then again, his main advice was to "win 20% of your trip bankroll and get out of the casino ASAP" I'm sorry, but that's an okay win goal, but if the count is positive I want to benefit from it as best as possible.

He suggested shit like splitting 55 against dealer 6 EVERYTIME. Not to split 10's no matter what the count was. Don't split 88 vs dealer 9 10 or A. Just because "you don't want more money on the table when the dealer is strong."

It's almost like a ploppy wrote a book.. wait.. it IS like a ploppy wrote a book.

Books I would recommend are Blackjack Bluebook by Renzey or any book by Stanford Wong.

Thanks for all the info. I will look into getting some of these books. I didn't see "Blackbelt in Blackjack" on this site however. Where might I find this book, and what kind of detail does this book go into? Blackjack Attack sounded like a good book, so I will probably be getting that. It sounds like it goes into some extra detail after you already have the card counting down.

Thank again!!!!

Read blackbelt FIRST. Blackjack Attack is a little harder to read, you'll want a decent understanding on blackjack before reading it.

That's an understatement. I'm working through it now. Schlesinger clearly doesn't want anyone to forget he's a math professor. OTOH, Snyder is a pleasure to read - even my wife enjoyed the bits and peices I had her look at (like understanding negative variance.)

Books on blackjack.......

Agree with many others but in my view, if you have not bought or read Ian Andersen's 'Burning The Tables in Las Vegas', you are missing a crucial piece of your blackjack education. The guy talk's a lot of sense.

I just read Anderson's FIRST book ("Turning the tables in Vegas" 1976). It was an entertaining read and history lesson. I should be getting Burning in the mail pretty soon.

what to read?

Read Blackjack Bluebook II by Fred Renzey-learn the Kiss III count (it's an unbalanced count, so need need to convert a running count into a true count) and you'll go from novice to advantge player just like that!!
The Kiss III count gets the money-end of story!
Ian Andersens' Burning The Tables in Las Vegas is also great.
