looking for something I can make for little or no cost that will serve as a 6 deck shoe so I can practise counting with all 6 decks.

Anyone done anything that works, or have an idea?

Not being a smart ass, but I just stack them on top of the table I practice on. It's free...otherwise, look on Ebay for ones. They may have them.

Good luck

Shouldn't be difficult.

A friend purchased an acrylic shoe at one of those pool places that need other merchandise to sell during the off-season. From looking at it, I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to construct one out of Plexiglass purchased at Home Depot. I once made a small wind tunnel about the same size for my kid's school science project that looked just about like it.

Don't know how good these are, but may be cheaper than making one:

hmmmm as I was looking around the house I was thinking, how about taking an empty kleenex box, (rectangular obviously) cutting a slit for the cards to come out and a semi circle so they can be grabbed.

only thing I can't come up with is a wedge that would keep feeding the cards forward.

anyone see anything wrong with this idea? only thing I can think of is the cardboard or whatever it's made of may wear out, not slide the cards well

HAAHAHAHAHA my friend actually tried this. he even used it once. it was a disaster, lol. i find that just practicing with 1 or decks is just as effective. or if you really want 6, then just grab a bunch of the top and start dealing... you don't really need to recreate the entire casino.

note: i have purchased a shoe

I tried the kleenex box idea, and it was a disaster. There was too much friction in the box, and I couldn't get the right weight/slide to the wedge.

If you have a Bennix nearby (they're in pretty much every mall that I've been to), they sell a very nice 8D shoe for $10. I got one for Christmas, and it works like a beauty. I stopped in at the local Buck or Two where they sell cheapass decks for 2/$1. I would never use the decks for anything other than practicing since they are real crap (creased laminate, eg), but they'll do for practicing (and they came with jokers for cut cards)

So for the cost of 3 $5 bets, you can set yourself up with a nice practice rig. I know stacking the cards on the table WORKS, but heck, it just isn't as fun. Plus, I have limited space. The stack of cards was always getting knocked over. When I drop the decks into the shoe, I can just tuck the shoe away somewhere.
