Asking to see burn card?

#1
Anyone actually ask the dealer to do it? My personal feeling is it's not a good idea because it may attract too much attention for a relatively small benefit. But if having a completely accurate count is important to you...what are your thoughts?

Two ways around it that I have seen:

1. Find a dealer who always shows the burn (this happens about 50% of the time at a casino near me, though a source tells me they are cracking down on it)

2. Get lucky and sit at 1st base with a sloppy dealer who consistently flashes it...as happened to me today

In my experience, ploppies ask to see the burn card quite regularly, so it would by no means single you out as an AP. In fact, I will usually just wait for another player to ask so I don't have to.

I prefer not to do it. I try to pay as little attention to the cards as possible while still maintaining the count. Why call attention when it's really not necessary?

yes, ploppies, efinately ask to see it on a regular basis, and it truely isnt a big deal. if you dont want to ask directly, sometimes, caling attention to the table will work. try pointing out, to the table that the dealer just burned a card, and it would have been yours, make it known that your not hapy, and usually sombody, will be awiseguy and ask to see it.

additionally sitting at first base gives you a reason to ask since it wuld have been your card had it not been burnt.

more importantly still, when sitting at first base, you often get to see the last card of the shoe, sometimes because it naturaly leans and exposes itself to you, butalmost always, when dealers change and the shoe is moved to the center of the felt during the switch. even when there is a cut card covering the last card, it will still become visible should you position your head apropriately.
