Betting advice

I was teaching my friend how to play basic strategy, and briefly went over counting. However this question came up. Since he is new and doesnt always have a 100% accurate count yet, if we went to a casino to practice would he do better attempting to count as well as possible, never betting above the table minimum, and playing perfect basic strategy, or using his running count that may be off by a point or two give or take and only vary his bets according to it, leaving the higher bets to made near the end of a shoe on a possitive count of coarse.

The best advice would be for him to learn to count properly. I'm assuming he doesn't know any play variation indices, but for shoe games it is more important to vary your bet based on the count anyway. Get his RC and TC calculations accurate, then at least he will have some advantage in the game. Playing BS and flat betting just to "practice your count" is stupid when you can practice your count on something like CVBJ instead, and not waste your money.
