Beyond Counting by James Grosjean

BEYOND COUNTING for sale cheap!!!

This is my first post here; I have never posted on forums in the past. I hope this does not scream SPAM because I really thought you guys would want to know that I'm putting James Grosjean's Beyond Counting up for auction on Ebay with a very low starting bid so everyone gets a fair shot at it. I've gently copied any pages I need for reference, but the book is in like new condition. I've never sold anything on Ebay before, so although I plan to list it on Friday, 12-10-05 at 7 p.m. PST, it could turn out more complex than I think, in which case it will start on Sunday at the same time.

I haven't played since Peter Giles (my husband) died in 1998. (If you don't remember Peter, look in the preface and index of Wong's Blackjack Secrets.) I hope people remember him as I do, a brilliant but humble man of great integrity and charm. I'm totally out of touch, so I could use some advice. The closest casinos to me are in Shreveport - are there any good games there? God only knows how much I have missed.

Thanks, Mindliver.

Not spam at all. Grosjean's BC is tough to find these days, so a copy appearing on EBay is news in the blackjack community. Please come back and post a link once your auction is up and running.

While your auction may have a low starting bid, I expect you'll see a nice dollar amount as the winning bid. The last few copies that have been sold on EBay have gone for several hundred dollars each. Maybe $800 I think? Not bad for a book that retailed for $40.

I'm not parting with my copy though, even for $800!

You asked about Shreveport. I understand that Sams Town (formerly Hollywood) is cutting the 6 decks pretty deep.

can someone please tell what is so great in this book that it's going for $400-$500 I'm not trying to be a smart a$$, I just can't find out much about it. Is the information in it that good?

Grosjean's book includes in-depth analysis of lots of games, including blackjack, 3-card poker, craps. There is even a section about beating the Big Six wheel, normally considered one of the worst games on the casino floor.

Most of the information focuses on hole-carding plays, but the book really drives home the point that there are a lot of ways to get an edge out there.

James is working on a new edition, and you can also read some articles at his site, here: http://www.beyondcounting.com (Archive copy)

For example, his article 'Beyond Coupons' will tell you some very interesting things about using match plays or promo chips. If you haven't seen this article, I bet you'll never guess the best ways to use coupons.

Just thought I'd look back and check the results of mindliver's auction. Her book sold for $320. Not bad at all. Congrats!

Hi,

Just wondering do you have any more "Beyond Counting" to sell? If you do, how much will it cost? Please contact me by [email protected] if you are interested. Thank you.

Yours Sincerely

James was elected to the Blackjack Hall Of Fame this year. Here's a good review of his book:

It is a somewhat technical book but the information is great. I wouldn't pay $400 for it, but it is definitely a solid investment for serious players.

Here is a link to some of his articles including information on ace tracking, coupon playing, scavenger BJ and his winning lawsuits against Caesar's, Imerial Palace and the Griffin Agency (the latter of which went backrupt due to the court's decision):

I once sold a book on ebay for 100 dollars. I thought that was rediculous that people would pay that much for a book. That's crazy that a book is going for 300+. Can't someone just put it online! :)

I know this is an old thread, so has his sequel came out? How good of a book is it?

I bid 200 on this book but it ended up at 360 and I lost. Actually I am glad I did because his new edition will come out soon, and the website states it will print to meet demands. I just wonder how you can get a "recommendation" to buy the pro edition. Also, I hope nothing useful has been taken out of the old edition.

A few comments:

1. The greatest value of BC is that it makes you think twice about rejecting the absurdity of beating any game. An example is a craps bet that can only occur once a night only in casinos that are not open 24 hours. This, in itself, is not very valuable info. But, it is valuable to understand that profitable twists can be found in most any game.

2. If you don't know whether it makes sense to own, last I heard there was a copy at the UNLV library.

3. I'm getting a bit tired of books that leave out the good stuff unless you can get a recommendation from somebody. The point is not to keep info from the casinos, but to keep it from other APs. Frankly I'm tempted to publish whatever is left out.

I see that Exhibit CAA: Beyond Counting is going to be around 600 pages and cost about 175 for the hardcover edition and 100 for the softcover. They say the hardcover should be out in couple months.

It is in the Special Collections section. It cannot be checkout out but you can read it in their reading room for as long as you want. I suggest you bring a notebook because you will want to take as much info as you can home with you.
