Blackjack being considered for Washington DC metro area...

I was down in the Metro area (in Virginia, though), and I saw a street called Tripleseven Blvd, (no joke) and I wondered if DC used to be the GAMBLING capital of the US. :p

I can assure you that it won't happen. They had gambling in the past in PG county. Ask yourself why they don't still have it?

These were my initial thoughts as to why this has potential:

1) Maryland has now legalized slots. But, can find no one willing to invest in either the License fee or the infrastructure (machines, real estate). This shows a propensity to tolerate and approve gambling initiatives...and perhaps find a less expensive business model.

2) The horse tracks are dying. I was in the parking lot at a Maryland track on a Friday night in March. It had a capacity for thousands of cars. Only 18 were in the lot. The legislature will try to take measures to save them and table games are the answer they are suggesting.

3) W.Va, Del., and PA, are surrounding MD with table games...You gotta know the senators are thinking....if ya can't beat 'em, join 'em!

4) Table games attract a more intelligent gambler...along with the dollars that accompany them.

5) The Gaylord Hotel Complex looks like the Bellagio, and cost as much...Hmmmm

6) Maryland needs the Revenue like never before.(See 3) Do I really need to say the "R" word?

Thunder, I think you are referring to the charity gambling that was abolished in the 90's. That was due to corruption. (please see link) You should know from history corruption won't stop vice...it will only delay it's development. Ask Howard Hughes, he'll tell ya.

Actually it wasn't Prince Georges County, it was Calvert,Anne Arundel, Charles and St. Mary's. Slot parlors were abundant at the beaches and along 301 until the late 60's. The reason they discontinued them was that the rapid growth of the D.C suburbs more than made up for the tax revenue previously funded by the "red necks" down south. There was, however a lot of underground activity in the fraternal clubs of PG County sic. Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Moose and Elks etc.

BJbob,
B Jack Trash is correct. They had gambling at most of the firehouses in the 90s that was entirely legal until they shut it down I believe in 1996 or 1997.
You think Harrah's rules are bad. I remember people not being able to find a seat even with rules like pushes on 17 were considered a loss!

There would be enormous political pressure not to have gambling in PG county again as it's probably the poorest county in the DC area with the most crime.
You could see it in other counties like Anne Arundel but yeah they have to first find willing investors who will pay the fees and what not.
