Boy, today's session at the casino was a short one!

Went to the Borgata today. Dropped wife and daughter off by the outlet mall, figuring I'd meet up with them in 4 or 5 hours.

Started backcounting tables with open seats, and on the 4th shoe I counted, finally hit a good one. Sat down and won every hand I played, including a double down at 10u and a BJ at 12u! When the shoe ended, I was up 70 units. Played one more shoe, which was about break-even. Then, back to wandering the tables and backcounting. Four more shoes without a good count, so no play, then it was shift change.

Called the wife and said, finish up shopping. Time for lunch then the ride home.
Positive variance is nice. :)

Heading to AC Soon

21forme -

We're heading to AC in 3 weeks...what's the scene like there? What are the good places to play BJ with low minimums and decent dealers? I'm heading there with the lady, so it is more of a fun trip than an ultra-serious one.

Thanks for the advice.

xfiles - No, never. Occasionally a dealer will say, "do you want to play?" I usually answer "taking a break and just watching for now" or "I want to see how you're treating everyone" or something like that. There are plenty of people just standing behind tables and watching everyone else play.

ChefJJ - Personally, I play only at the Borgata. It's the only casino with 6 deck shoes outside the high roller area. About 2/3 permit mid-shoe entry. Weekdays there are plenty of $15 tables with a few $5 and $10 as well. Weekends, there are a handful of $10 and $15 tables in the mornings, but afternoons and evenings even $25 tables become scarce.

The only negative is location. It's in the marina area and not conducive to hopping from one place to another (though all the others being 8 deck shoes, I don't know why you'd want to, unless just sightseeing.) Though I've only stayed at the Borgata and don't have personal experience, it's supposed to have the nicest rooms and has some nice restaurants.

On the boardwalk, there's a new upscale shopping mall (The Pier at Caesars) with a lot of nice stores and restaurants. Have fun!

Tropicana and Ceasars have decent $10-15 games during the week. Borgata supposedly has a few $5 tables in an out of the way place. I say that because several people that have been there say they never saw the $5 tables.

Shadroch - please define decent.
Like porn, you know "decent" when you see it.
It mostly has to do with the dealers being a bit more pleasant than the other casinos, the players being nicer, penetration being slightly better, comps being better.
I'm not a fan of BJ in AC,but if I play its now at the Trop. Used to be The Sands but no mo'

Your best bet is The Borgata. Nicest atmosphere, nicest table limits, I've had really good penetration there too. Ploppies don't have attitudes as often (my personal experience) 6d DAS No RSA, No Surrender split 3 times.

The rest of the city is pretty much 8 deck. The ploppy bullshit factor seems to be higher at the places near the boardwalk. But then again, that is just my experience. I don't have any memories about someone bitching about my changing the order of the cards when I switch to two hands (normally during a + count so they start winning but still bitch at me for "messing" it up.)

Be ready to pay for parking. Get a copy of the American Casino Guide 2007 for a few 2 for 1 buffet coupons. Avoid the Trump casinos.

Wonging when I was there proved difficult, so I would start fresh off a shuffle and wong out when the count went to hell.
