BS Question

#1
Hello,

I am starting my study of Blackjack BS and was wondering what the best set of rules for the BS would be? Is there one that is more common than any other?

Thanks

Most games offer multideck,dealer hits S17,DAS,DOA,No surrender,Peek.

If you were to learn only one,I'd go for that. The authors of KO Blackjack claim you only need to learn one chart, and I believe thats the one they say to learn. The charts for 6 and 8 decks are almost identical,if not completely identical.

Generally the more options the casino gives you, the better the game is. Things like being able to double after a split, double down on any two cards, and surrender are all beneficial to the player when played properly. You want to avoid rules like H17 if you can, and rules like BJ pays 6:5 will completely ruin a game. Different casinos will offer different rules and sometimes the rules will change from table to table. The best thing to do is find out what the rules are before you go to a casino so that you can be prepared.

The "general" BS rules are commonly expressed as 6D, S17, DAS: however that is very, very generic. The key to focusing on a particular BS chart is your own neighborhood. Since most areas tend offer similar "local" games, the casinos in a general area will generally vary little. Atlantic City, for example uses 8 Deck shoes and posted rules vary little from house to house. Most folks don't have the luxury of living close to the big gaming cities such as Vegas, Reno or AC, so they rely on their local joints which may be Indian or otherwise very rural, so you need to start there. Pick the casino that you're most likely to play at and just learn the BS for that game.

It depends where you live and the games in your area.

The rules in my area are quite different then Vegas and there are differences in BS.

The best way to find out the rules in your area is to go to the casinos or call and ask. You could also try asking about the casino conditions in the Land Based Casinos section of the forum for your area.

Once you find what type of game is played in your area go to the basic strategy engine on this site plug in the rules and print the charts and study study practice practice until it's perfect.

I think it would be a mistake to memorize the wrong type of BS for the type of game you would be playing.
