Card Counting Dealers

#1
Good Evening Everyone, Anyone ever suspect that your dealer may be an AP. I have, I have had this dealer many times at my favorite casino, Hes made comments like "I think all the aces are gone" and after that i havent seen one the entire rest of the shoe. when a new player sits down at a no-mid shoe entry table, "About 8 more hands and you should be able to play" and sure enough he was right. LOL.

I saw a dealer discuss a card counter who was booted from the week before. Probably just trying to make conversation.

It cuts both ways: If a dealer were to hint that the deck was ripe with high cards the ploppies might possibly raise their bets but wouldn't know how to play them afterwards.

So with a +4 TC the average basic strategy NON counting players would hit his stiff sixteen against dealers ten. Suicide.

These comments you refer to don't really suggest that the dealer knows how to count. He may have been counting the number of aces that had come out just for fun. Or he could have made his comment after he noticed a lot of them on the table in one round, and none happened to be dealt again for the rest of the shoe. And the second example only proves that he has been dealing long enough to recognize when the shoe is about to end. Still, I agree that dealers who know how to count do exist.

I had a dealer last week who, if he wasn't a counter, seemed to be sympathetic toward counters. After two days of dismal pen, this new dealer comes on and immediately cuts only a single deck from this 6-deack game. Wouldn't you know it, it was my last shoe of the trip and although we went through a good number of rounds of positive count, I couldn't catch a darn card. I lost a good part of that session's winnings, and then I had to leave.

PS--Sometimes you need to be careful what you ask for---you might get it!

I've played DD and SD with dealers who would count the cards and shuffle up early in positive counts. The SD dealer was pretty obvious about it. He scooped up the cards real slowly after each round so he could get the count. When the count got to +3 he would shuffle.

The DD dealer was more slick about it. Now that I think about it, he may not have been counting. Once a dealer suspects you are counting, all they have to do is wait until you raise your bet and then shuffle up. This dealer would pull the cut card one round early and shuffle if the shoe went positive. If the shoe was negative, he would deal until he reached the cut card.

Lessee,

One dealer, after I did something like stand on a 12 v 2, said "that's a good index play".

Another was BS'ing about a trip to the Philippines, and sneaking out on his wife to hit the casino. Then said "It's really hard to make money there, they burn a card after each hand!"

And then the two dealers at slotsafun who were preferentially shuffling on me in a DD game. And the second one definitely wasn't keying off my bets, she would preferentially shuffle even if I my bet remained unchanged. Of course, I have no idea if she was using a full-fledged count or something more simplistic. But it was working pretty good.

I do occasionally run into dealers who I genuinely believe know how to count and are either currently or formerly APs themselves. Their behavior can vary significantly based on their attitude toward advantage play, and how loyal they are to their employer. Sometimes, the dealer will make the comment "I play like you do *wink wink*", and will go out of their way to give you the best game possible (fast dealing, as good of pen as they can get away with, etc). Other times, I've had the dealer rat on me - typically when they go on break. Other dealers will purposely try to screw with your game, by announcing every card total by number, or by dealing an obvious hit card before you signal for a hit.
