I am a dealer and we cannot play table games in our own casino... plus all the local casinos tend to know I am a dealer so treat me accordingly - sometimes for the best, sometimes for the worst - but always cautiously with regards play. It's got to the point that I don't even try and count in my neighbouring casinos as it would seem foolish to say the least. I practice counting there for sure - but bet small.. maybe make a crazy bet on a 'whim' when the count is unreal.
As regards telling your associates - word got around that I was mad about counting and practicing it as I dealt.... and that I have a BJ set up at home with shoe, charts, etc. It has been received about 50/50 by my bosses. 50% view me with absolute suspicion - 50% view me as a possible valuable asset to the casino... so my advice would be to keep it schtum as Zen says. I'm now downplaying it all and shutting up saying 'I have lost too much money to be interested'...and 'if it were really that easy then everyone would be doing it'.
Definitely do not go to dealer school/audition and do anything to stand out. No card tricks, no fancy shuffling of chips, no crazy betting strategies - they will kick you out first day.
Peace.
