I was a big fan of LVA -in fact I bought over 50 annual subscriptions in 2002 alone!!zg
... strictly for friends and family. I ordered 25 of them, purchased with one check, for holiday gifts, no questions asked.

Hey Shad - my friends and family were adamant that the real value as subscribers, for them, was the printed newsletter and the non-gaming coupons.

Three cheers for Anthony Curtis... or as the shift boss at the now defunct Lady Luck put it - "We don't honor these f**king coupons anymore." zg

Anthony Curtis is the Real Deal

He has published hundreds of great gambling books (including mine). This includes stuff that would not otherwise get distributed.

The Las Vegas Advisor is my top recommendation for card counters Vegas. The coupons are fine. But it has fantastic information on price discounts. For example, it mentioned you could get 50% off on any Cirque de Soleil show through the website. It tipped readers off to the Danny Gans show moving and tripling in price. Anthony grew from a low-rolling advantage player to a successful publisher, but stays in touch with his roots. He personally prowls Vegas for discounts and deals every month.

Anthony provides a lot of free stuff, including his top ten list, parts of his website, and some forums. His information continues to be good because he is headquartered in Vegas and in continually in touch with top advantage players.

The only criticism is that he is spread thin because he is involved in so many things. So he has a short fuse on sports forums. He doesn't have time to waste pandering to dozens of sports subscribers when he has literally ten thousand of LVA readers to serve.

Anthony will be knowledgeable about virtually any aspect of Vegas: Comps, hookers, shows, traffic. Ask him anything!

NOT the ONLY.
There were ABSOLUTELY some unpleasant (and uncharacteristic) indiscretions like the UNRESOLVED
incident Shad describes. They were rare exceptions, I believe. zg

Are you trying to start something, zg? Sorry, I know you wouldn't do that. Actually, I think Shad did the right thing by NOT coming to the interview. It showed class, if you ask me. Let Anthony Curtis have his day. The Forum enjoyed it, and Shad didn't try to spoil it.

I was there part of the time and nothing earth-shattering was said, at least what I saw. Sorry shad didn't make it - some fireworks would have been entertaining

Pretty much my thoughts. Mr Curtis seemed personable enough, but can't say I learned all that much that will help me in the future, which is always my goal. Mr Curtis, clearly doesn't play that much blackjack presently, and much of the discussion center around other topic. Being that he is somewhat of a Las Vegas expert, I was hoping for some tidbits as to really good bargains, like $1 monorail rides or really good, yet reasonable places to eat. ect. Understandably, he probably saves that good stuff for the paying customers.

As for shad, I was a little disappointed that some of the members choose to make lite of the situation, with some mild name calling. I don't think he ever attacked Mr Curtis. He just has a situation that was not resolved to his satisfaction. Since his attempts to contact mr curtis in private have gone unanswered, it would have been tempting to bring it up in this forum, but I agree with aslan. He showed class in not doing so. Really was not the purpose of this forum. Kudos to you Shad.

It was of interest to me that Anthony opined that the emergence of casinos in surrounding states to New Jersey would not have the effect of causing AC casinos to compete for business with better games. He felt the AC casinos, in his words, would "stand pat." That shattered a hope of mine to the contrary. If what he says is true, I would imagine a few smaller stores in AC would go belly up with the remaining ones assimilating their patrons and gaining a little strength from that. I noted last week that the B was actually crowded, both on the casino floor and the parking garage. So, in spite of the joblessness in surrounding areas, it does not seem to have hurt the B all that much. Of course, that observation was made Sunday afternoon through Monday evening. Who knows what it looks like T, W, and Th?

The B is in a class by itself. It's a meat market and attracts a lot of younger people. At this point, I see no hope for AC, even if they improve the games. They had their chance to pretty it up and remove the blight when the money was pouring in. Now, they can't do anything, and have an empty prime beachfront lot (Sands/Pinnacle) and a partially built casino that will probably never be finished.

Curtis explained himself well as to the issue Shad had, and all agreed he was correct in his actions. In fact he made it clear he was looking forward to a debate with Shad and an open airing of the complaint, issues.

It never shows class to bad mouth someone and then when the time comes to confront them and give them a chance to defend themselves to be nowhere to be found, that is not class, it is called crass.

Overall I enjoyed the chat and Curtis was very honest in his answers, very fine overall.

I guess some will have to wait a while for that $1 monorail ride to the casino where they will then bet $200 a hand:laugh::laugh::rolleyes:;)
