Comp Questions At Harrah's Diamond Level

#1
Greetings,

I'm a Diamond Member with Harrah's and as of one month ago, I had accrued 13,000 Tier points for the year at my home casino through VP, BJ, and craps play. The comps have been pretty good: rooms whenever I want them through my host but comps on meals have been restricted through coupons only--and my reel rewards have averaged about $200 after each stay.

Mid-year, my host surprised me with Limos and large-suite upgrades unexpectedly. My play level was about 3000 tier per trip prior to these upgrades; however, since then these last two perks suddenly disappeared. I was told on the next trip that was because there were a lot of 7-Stars players in town.

Then I hit a hot streak and earned 7,000 tier points in just two days (double my norm). But it was the same result: no limo or suite & was told there was a lot of 7 Stars in town.

Do you think my host was just playing me, dangling those perks over me as bait to push me to even higher expectations? I do, but it was rather surprising that 7,000 tier in 2 days didn't re-qualifiy me (when the annual Diamond requirement is 11,000 per year).

That said, how's everyone else's comps been with Harrah's? Specifically, does your host ever pick up the phone and personally call you? (Mine never has.) I asked him for a specific comp to a nice restaurant and was told if I didn't have a coupon for it that it would have to come out of my personal reward credits (the ones that are redeemable for mechandise, etc).

Does it seem that my host is a little stingy and should I ask for a new one--or have I in fact been treated fairly for my play level?

The reason I ask is I recently went to a Harrah's sister property for 2 days and only earned 2500 tier points (which puts me at 15,500 Tier now for the year). At the end of my stay, that host gave me a $150 restaurant comp with no problems--in addition to my coupons--all I had to do was ask! I wonder if they're just trying to convert me to their property or if in fact that kind of comp is the norm? That is, should I be getting these kind of comps at my existing home casino and should my current host get the boot from what you've read?

Thanks in advance!

Alf

Let's put it this way. Having a min bet of $15/hr, I only get about $1-$1.50/hr in comps from them. That is why I don't play at their properties anymore along with their terrible rules.

Hosts at Harrahs have little leeway. Your comps come from either marketing offers or are deducted from your reward points. Hosts are useful in getting you reservations or tix to indemand shows, Otherwise they're fairly useless.
Diamond players used to be VIPs, now that status is for 7 star players.

I don't have any personal knowledge, but I'll back up what I've heard about there being less leeway in total rewards.

However, your host still might be a douchebag, maybe go host shopping.

Yeah, I think you're answering your own questions

It is a common tactic to dangle the privileges of the next tier when a host thinks that he can pressure you into achieving that tier.

Generally, HET comps are "stingy" at all tiers. The action to comp ratio isn't very good at any of them but they do contain a fairly large amount of variation. Some HET stores will comp you more than others. If you're shopping at Caesar's, there is only so much your host can do there because they really are looking for 7-stars while a Tier-3 may be very valued at a lower end store.

You could get better comps by improving your comp hustling skills.

Actually, that goes for everyone. Go read "Casino Comp City".

Red chippers should be eating free. Green chippers should be staying free. And black chippers should be flying free.

St. Louis Harrah's

My wife and myself are diamond players. Our Host in St. Louis calls about once a month if we haven't been. Always meets us in the Casino with a gift and puts $150 - $200 on the free room for food for a two night stay after we arrive. This way we just sign our room number and don't have to mess with paper comps.
This summer he gave us two Cardinal Baseball Tickets 4 rows directly behind home plate and all food & drink taken care of. Best comp & freebe casino we have ever found!!

Wow! That's fantastic, must be nice.

That's nothing like I've experienced at Diamond: do you know my host has never called me once in several years either? (And I'm in the 15,000 to 25,000 Tier point bracket--sounds like for the New Year, it should be out with the old and in with the new also!). What's the range of you both for this past year if you don't mind me asking (and you don't think anonymity would be compromised)?

Best regards,

FD

You'll get much better results with Harrahs if you focus your play all on one day. If you're staying at the hotel multiple nights there isn't much you can do. But if not, play heavy on one day and not at all on the next.
Your average daily theo is the key to good comps and offers from Harrahs. Your card level has little to nothing to do with it. Nor does your cumulative tier credits in a year.

comps

My dad would take me with him. A lot of the time he was a whale but enough grey chippers hit town and we would get a mini suite. He pretty much only went when a big money tournament was happening. Hosts always calling about tournaments some about giveaways. Many trips had several big tournaments. Always a limo for AC.

If we went to LV he would book the most expensive flight possible. He would get air comp reimbursement at every casino if possible and usually stayed for 9 days at 3 different casinos. Full RFB. His action ranges from $550 to $2200 average bet mostly craps some blackjack if they would still let him play (most didnt) depending on the place we stayed at.

We went to Reno one time and hit them pretty hard. They did let him play blackjack and he probably played more than he should have. He bet skinny black and jumped to black towers. Pretty obvious. They had us share a limo back to the airport with another father and son. They wanted to talk about counting. My dad ignored them and I just told them I dont count but everyone I see that looks like they are counting seem to lose most of the time so I wouldnt be interested.

After we got home they retroactively pulled his comp to at least some degree from the limo driver reporting we were talking about counting cards. I think we were set up. We never went back to Reno. I cannt remember the name of the casino for sure, I know if people rattled of the possibles Id recognize it. My recollection is (deleted PM me if you are interested). If that is a Reno casino thats the one for those interested.
