If the chips are being put on the edge of the Pass Line nearest the player, this is likely "Placing the Point", which is simply making a Place bet on the number that has become the point. If so, it is only a Place bet and it pays exactly the same.

Some casinos are indifferent whether a Place bet on the point number goes on the edge of the Pass Line or in the number box (traditional location). Some do not allow it on the edge, and some tell you to put it there.

good luck

would it be wise to make the pass line bet and bet odds ANd make the line place bet that we discussed?
Nope. Take the money you'd put on the Place bet and make it an Odds bet. Here's why:

Number 6 or 8: Odds pay 6:5, Place pays 7:6
Number 5 or 9: Odds pay 3:2, Place pays 7:5
Number 4 or 10: Odds pay 2:1, Place pays 9:5

As you can see, the Odds always pay better than the Place bet. So if you have that decision to make, it's really a no-brainer.

thanks for the info chef...been practicing dc for a month now...not really serious since school is my priority but been working on technique and throwing...next week is spring break and we'll see what happens.....so do you bet when others are rolling or you just wait till its your turn? how do you go about betting when others are rolling?
what does frank scoblete say about that? he waits to bet till his turn also? when others are rolling?(excluding dominator ,sharpshooter, etc)
