Double down for soft hand?

#1
Hi,

1)If I double down soft A,6 and I draw a 3, the final total should be twenty or ten points only?

2)If I double down soft A,6 and I draw an Ace, the final total should be eighteen or eight points only?

cheers

You don't have to 'pick' an interpretation for the Ace. If you hit A6 and draw a 3, you should stand against any dealer upcard, since you have a twenty.

If you hit A6 and draw another Ace for 8/18, what you do should depend on the dealer upcard. For example, against a 9 you would hit again, but against a dealer 2 you would stand.

Have I understood your question appropriately?

Oh wait, you're talking about after doubling.

Certainly you should describe the hand as whatever total is highest. Again, you don't pick before the next card whether the Ace is 1 or 11. It's always whatever works best.

I guess the simple answers to your questions are Hand1 is 20, Hand2 is 18.

But the dealer here give me the different answer...

The answer given by the casino here :-

The Hand1 is 10 and the Hand2 is 18!

His reason is that the Ace which already on the table(before doubling) always consider as 1 point after you double down and if the third card you draw is an Ace then the value of this third card is consider eleven points. Is it true? The casino here cheated me?

Other question :-

Why the BS chart recommend double down soft A,7 Vs dealer's 6 and never recommend hard total 8(for example 3,5) Vs dealer's 6?

Yes, I'd say the casino has cheated you on that ruling. I've never heard of any place using a rule like that.

As for doubling A7 vs 6 compared to doubling 8 vs 6...
With A7, you can draw a 3 to make 21. When doubling an 8 the best hand you can make is a 19.

my ametuer answer would be cause with an

a+7 = soft 18.. if you take a card you will not hit again anyway against a 6 so therefore its a good double because 6 is the highest bust card.

with just a plain 8 .. if you get a 2 or 3 .. (for 10 or 11) then you cannot take another card and you have crippled yourself .....
doubling when you have no chance of busting is a bad idea? iw ould think im not sure
In Australia you can only double on 9,10,11

might have to get an answer from one of the guys from LV

but thats my 2cents

Oops, this rules only for Spanish 21 instead of BJ!

Oops, this rules only for Spanish 21 not BJ!

However, is it true also for Spanish 21 ?

Dealers and floor alike can be quite ignorant in break-in joints - I saw a guy in Gold Spike a few months back double on A8 and the dealer dealt him a 6 face up and was instructed by the floor to scoop the bet, "he busted." I kept quite but a while later that same player told me that he knew he didn't bust but he "didn't wish to make a scene!" zg

Why wouldn't you say anything? Were you worried it would bring attention to you?
