First time out in 5 years, Report

As you may or may not know I started counting again after a 5 year layoff. This trip was with a couple non counting friends, last second plans to go blow off some steam. I just started practicing again 2 weeks ago and in my view not ready, but hey this was a for fun trip, not work.

Being I was practicing for SD thats what I played. I brought only $500.00 but could get more without problem. Played $5.00 minimum tables spread $5 to $20 ( 1 to 4 units ) I only played with no more than 2 others at the table ( 25% time was heads up ), wonged out many, many times for low counts. I kept each sesion short, 30 to 45 minutes. Had to avoid a little heat, got some preferental dealing. Probably ended up with about 8/9 hours of table time. End result was up $500.00. Or 100 units.

Good: Made money, no backoffs. I was not sure about my counting before leaving, end result was I counted without much problem. Heads up I was fine except one gal who was ultra fast. Even if I was to play BS only she was still to fast. I could not even verify the payoffs. I was having coversations, making it fun for others and keeping up just fine.

Bad: A little heat from PB when he happend to be close by and had 2 great shoes in a row. The were both TC 16+ early. I played 4 units all the way through each and did not loose. I played a little negitive shoe next and dissapered for a bit. One dealer I believe was a couter as well. She started to shuffle up on me when the bet was raised. She did not say anything, I just avoided her from then on. I think I ended up playing with another AP. At the SAME TIME we noticed our bets increasing at the same time. It was just him and me at the table. I left the table and WE just avoided each other from then on. Tried to find him later to find out but he was gone.

Overall it was a great return. I forgot how much fun the cat and mouse games were. I look forward to the next trip and only hope that my trips for business are as profitable as the fun trips.......Pugi

Great story! Thanks for sharing! The trip sounded like fun, and cool to encounter a fellow counter. But why did you avoid each other?

And the part where you had TC of 16 :O even for a SD, thats unbelivable.

Not sure why we avoided each other, it just seemed like the right thing to do. Trying to avoid heat I guess. If you are silver haired, in mid 50's and played northern Nevada this weekend send me a PM.

TC of 16+ TWO shoes in a row!!! Actually one was 16 the other was 18. I really, really wanted to get more units on the table but the PB was breathing down my neck. A side note, I did have several more shoes of the 12 to 16 area and on a couple was jumping for joy on the inside. Blasted all I forgot to count the remainder of the shoe. They could have even been higher. I guess I need to not get so excited and try to concentrate a little more....Pugi

Theres a couple of ways to handle this:

1. Start raising your bets in negative counts.

2. Make max bets of the top, and then jack your bet^ when the count turns negative.

More than likely she wasnt counting; but just shuffling on you when you raised your bets. However, if she was a counting as well, then of course this tactic wouldnt work.

I did raise on negative counts a couple times. Once when the PB was breathing down my neck. As far as the counting dealer, It could be she was basing it off my bets and not counting. Either way I had great camo with my friends playing poker right next to me. The pits were right next ot each other and could visually see from one to the other. I could go see how they were doing at the proper times and come back a little later. Getting a table head to head or with one other was not much of a problem. This time it was just best to avoid her.
