First Trip

#1
Hey guys, I've been practicing a lot of card-counting and doing some research on my own, and I'm hoping to make my first trip sometime in the near future. I live in a great area casino-wise, southern California. The one particular game I'm looking at starting on is a 6D, H17, DAS, no re-splitting aces, late surrender, w/$5 min. Approximately .56% house advantage. I'm going to be using the high-low count, and wonging out at TC<-2. My biggest concern is my betting schedule. For some reason I'm still having difficulty understanding the math behind it. I've heard a lot of different betting strategies, and I can't seem to decide which one is best for me. I don't wanna be too aggressive, for fear of making rookie mistakes on my first trip, but I also wanna keep my variance to a minimum. I'm probably just gonna start with a $100 bankroll, but it would be easily replenishable every two weeks. I could probably even take out another 1-2 hundred if that first bankroll runs out too fast. What do you guys think? I appreciate the advice.

I think that even with only 100 dollars to play with, you will be exposed to a very high trip risk of ruin, even at the $5 table. You may be able to push a $15 or $25 bet out there, but remember, counting does not guarantee a win. I would suggest waiting till you can have at least $500 to devote to the $5 table.

If you want to just explore and see how things go, you may want to spread any where from 1-3 or 1-5 I suppose. Just realize you could be broke very quickly, even with a high count.

That's fine. I understand the high RoR, that's why I'm planning on using a replenishable bankroll. I understand the spread as well, my problem is figuring out how to apply that spread, and a what TC to raise/lower my bet.

generally speaking betting plans have a small bet (the table minimum), and a large bet (the most you can afford based on your personal outlook on finance) the contrast between them is known as the "spread"

when you approach a game you need to have the goal of putting less money into action at TC<+1 and more money into action at TC>+1 because +1 is roughly the point where there is no house edge either way **in most games**

manyt people opt to bet proportionally to the edge they hold over the game so since a tc of +1 actually yeilds only th tiniest player edge, most players ellect to bet the minimum.

a TC of +3 yeilds dsouble the player edge of a TC of +2 in your case maybe bet 10 on tc +2 and 20 on tc +3 and 25 or 30 on anything higher.

im going to ***emphasise*** using ****these*** that you dont have enoufgh oney to expect to last long, but if you get lucky, you may take off...like ****really lucky**** so good luck with it, and remember, if you cant double down or split, your art playing with an edge.

keep in mind you can bet 0 by sitting out a hand, i would highly advbise you do this periodically since you hgave like no money to risk.

sorry for typos im typing with one arm cause im a cripple this week

Back Count!

With just $100, you should probably back count. Enter shoe when count hits +2. Bet schedule: +1 $5, +2 $10, +3 $15, +4 $20, $ +5 or higher $25. When it hits 0 wong out! Will be good practice counting with lowest possible (but still high for your bankroll) risk, and you will always be favored. Good luck!

I understand the high RoR...
I could be wrong, of course, but I wonder if you really do understand the implications of having such a small trip bankroll. See this thread for some discussion of this.

I think you should bring at least $300 along, and more would be better.

He should be betting $5 at +2 or higher, and never raising his bet. MAYBE go to 2x$5 if it gets over +5. Otherwise, he's going to tap out.

MOST places you will have no problem spreading aggressively (20x) being a 'new face' and playing $5 unit, but you have no br to do it...unless you find a $1 talble

"timid money losses money" and if you only have a c-note to risk, chances are you are worried to lose it...and probably will....#1 AP rule is to be properly funded due to large variance, but, keep in mind, if you are good and DISCIPLINED "justice will always be served" in the end...which is why you need the br.

I see all too often, players that somewhat understand what they are doing but don't spread nearly enough...best advice is wait till you have at least $1000 that you are willing to risk (losing) - an investment - and give it a go.
