Foxwoods or Mohegan?

New England sucker here any opinions on either place? I got wiped out of a $1000 last week at Foxwoods. Dealer pulled somewhere in the area of about 12 blackjacks in one shoe!!! Of course I was in the high roller section because that is the only 6 deck action in there. Min $50. I am about 2 hours away from both of them. I haven't hit Atlantic City yet, but soon.

Yes I play at Foxwoods every week, and I'd recommend avoiding the Newport room. There's no advantage to it, and everyone I know who has gotten in trouble at Foxwoods it has been either in or after playing in the Newport room. Mohegan has some playable games too but you have to look a lot harder to get good pen. What kind of stakes/spread are you using?

I play regularly at both. I prefer the atmosphere, restaurants and general layout of Mohegan over Foxwoods, but I think that AM is right in that you are likely to find better penetration at Foxwoods (although they do have some ridiculous rules like allowing players to split 10s, something you would never want to do).
I agree, Mohegan is a much nicer place rivaling a Strip property in atmosphere and quality. I burned out their game pretty seriously back when they did offer decent pen so now I am persona non grata at those tables, but I can still get in to play briefly. My girlfriend and I love the free shows in the Wolf Den. Foxwoods I find offensive, especially the food, but I have a pretty solid system for beating them and I've been hammering on them for years now. Can't beat those gas card comps!

But I'm not sure why you don't want to split 10's there- that's a pretty profitable index play and it's not like Foxwoods sweats counters. Mohegan is the oddball and one of only a couple of casinos that doesn't allow splitting 10's.

6,000 slots is only 3 times the size of most california indian casinos, but 300 table games? Damn. that's a lot of tables. That's twice what's at Pechanga (south of LA), and that place felt more like a shopping mall than a casino.

foxwoods

well I've always gone to foxwoods. I really only started playing about 2 years ago, and because of my location its the only game in town. Until recently i was just a basic strategy player. I can say I studied it and followed it well. I took a trip down to Vegas this last Nov, and killed em'. All of them! I got there on a thur at like 3pm, and didn't stop playing until 6am Sat. Took a 3 hour nap and hit them again until I left Sunday night. So I got about 80ish hours in in a 4 day trip! It was pretty sweet. I only played basic strategy, and started with just $300. We played maybe 2 or 3 shoes in one place, and moved to the next alllll the way up the stip, and alllll they way back down. And then did it again. I came home with +$4500! After I got back I wondered why I did so well down there, but pretty much suck at Foxwoods. I chalked it up to the fact that Foxwoods really only plays 8 Deck. So I decided that 8 deck was to be avoided. Thats when I called the Fox, and Mo and asked if they offer anything smaller like 6. Sure enough they do, but an $50 min. So I took the trip down to Foxwoods with $1000, (wayyyy under the correct amount for $50 hands) and got killed again. The "dealers" were on fire. I moved around but no matter what table I sat at, the dealers were pullin BJ's left and right. I was never up, not once! Since my return I have been studying card counting. I play a couple hundred hands a night of 6 deck on my own table, and have been doing pretty well. My main concern has been money management. Anyway I really can't afford to be shootin $50 hands out there at the Fox, but the 8 deck doesn't seem to be the answer... should I be It seems like NY is the next closest step for me or Atlantic City, but not sure it will make a big enough difference for the cost of the travel.

We hit both Mohegan and Foxwoods every couple of months. They're both actually good places to play. It is true that you have to work harder to find decent penetration in mohegan, but they offer a lot of beatable 6 deck games when you find them. Foxwoods on the other hand is 8 deck games on the floor, but the penetration is fantastic, and they have good rules including surrender. (As does Mohegan also). I have found Mohegan slightly more aware of card counters, so be aware. Foxwoods on the other hand seems to be fairly clueless when it comes to counting, but I would still play smart just the same, no need to help them get a clue. The CT casinos have recently become some of our favorite spots, we can't play them too regularly, but when we do, it always seems to be very favorable. But just like any other casino, if you're not counting or playing some type of advantage play, it doesn't matter, eventually you will lose regardless of playing conditions.

Good to hear you are learning card counting! You'll find the experience quite profitable at Foxwoods. The 6D shoes at Mohegan tend to be very crowded and higher limit so I would recommend you play the 8D games at Foxwoods with the $10 or $15 minimum until you get some experience and proper capitalization. 6D or 8D makes very little difference for this kind of play. But be forewarned that even at these games you're going to have to be prepared to put $100-$150 out there at high counts, so you're going to need to get together $3-5K that you can afford to lose before you get down there. You'll find conditions much worse in Atlantic City- worse pen, worse crowds and no surrender.

I remember reading something awhile back from a table manager or something at foxwoods. He said something to the extent " I dont mind card counters, they just shouldnt be getting the comps" So maybe if you dont get a comp card you can last a loooong time. Also i remember reading about a guy who used a $50-600 spread and played 3-4 days a week there for a month or two before he got the boot. He had won more than 20K.

Also trying to find the difference

So Mohegan has 6 deck games and Foxwoods has 6 or 8 deck games depending on which room you play in?

So first question, is the +.02 difference in advantage really that much of a big deal? Esp. if you are forced to play hands which are outside of what your bankroll can realisticly handle? And if you get better penetration at an 8 deck shoe?

And though I play at Foxwoods often I haven't been to Mohegan in well over a year or more. (Though I do enjoy the atmosphere there more) While Foxwoods posts their Blackjack rules online and in brochures in the casino I couldn't find anything about the rules at Mohegan.

I take it they allow surrender, just early or late too? Can you resplit hands? resplit aces? Double down on any number or double down after splitting?

The two casinos have essentially the same rules: S17, LS, no RSA. Mohegan has 8D and a few 6D on the main floor and 6D in the high limit rooms. Foxwoods has all 8D on the main floor and all 6D in the high limit rooms.

The difference in value between 6D and 8D games is equivalent to about 9-10 cards penetration, if you are sitting down at the shuffle and Wonging out of bad counts. Being Foxwoods has better pen overall and more tables to choose from, you are going to end up playing much deeper pen there.

Monkers, are you employing different tactics at Foxwoods than you did when you burned yourself out at Mohegan Sun?

Or does Foxwoods just not care?

If you come across a place that offers early surrender. I'm sure we would all be interested in hearing. :D

Combination. I'm using a smaller spread with more consistent avoidance of bad counts. This results in no camping out and I'm rarely in one place for more than a half hour. I also have a max bet that would draw attention in a lot of places, but not there or really anywhere in the Northeast.
