Good Games

#1
Hello everyone,

I'm a bit confused on the "good game" talk and what a player should look for to get an advantage. I'm very new to counting and had my first experience counting in Laughlin about a week ago. What "bells" should go off in my head as I'm trolling around tables and casinos? I know to stay away from BJ 6:5 and poor penetration, but other than that what do you consider good or ideal for 1D, 2D, 6D and 8D? I use KO right now... Sorry if this is a basic question, I just don't want to sit down at a table where the rules are against me and the table next to me is "better".

I will feel better about paying for information about different casino games (I saw some links on a previous thread), if I understand what good game in general to look for...

Thanks everyone!

The most important factor will be the penetration. Great pen can make an otherwise terrible game great. The next step is to look at the rules. Can you double after a split? Surrender? Resplit aces? Is it S17 or H17? Another big consideration is the casino conditions. Is it too crowded? Are there too many players at the tables? Are there not enough other players in the casino? Are you the biggest bettor? Are the pit bosses attentive? Do they sweat your action or are they ignoring you? Are there any special conditions that this casino offers (valuable promotions, fast dealers, sloppy dealers, a weak shuffle, etc.)?

Those are a few of the factors that APs look for when they are scouting casinos.

ariz i think you already realize that in general the fewer decks the game has the better your advantage. your skill level may determine what is best for you. you want to play the games that you are most comfortable with. then you want to play tables that provide table minimums that fit your bankroll so that you don't always find your self over betting as result of the table minimum being to high. but you also would like to have the highest table maximun to fit your biggest expected bets.
the more penetration the better.
the rules that the casino has imposed upon the game determine the house advantage. many of the popular blackjack books have charts and tables that tabulate the percent advantage a given rule lends to a game. the percent advantage of these rules are additive so that you can add them together for a given games rules and then compare that game to another as far as house advantage. scroll down the page of the following link and you'll find a list of rules and their percent advantages:
