Yes; they still ban people, all the time. Somewhere in Las Vegas, someone will probably get banned today, and tomorrow; etc. If they think that you're someone that they do not want in their casino, FOR ANY REASON; they will ban you. Period.
This policy lumps pickpockets, cheaters, muggers, theives, murderers; and card counters into the same category (although most casinos would probably not ban a murderer, as long as he didn't kill one of their paying customers). If you get banned in a casino, any friend or friends that you have with you will probably ALSO get banned. If they see you talking to a stranger, that person may ALSO get banned. I've even had them ban everyone who happened to be sitting at the same blackjack table with me, just in case one of them was a partner of mine (sometimes they're even RIGHT!). If you're driving down Las Vegas Blvd and get caught with drugs in your car, some casinos will ban you from their property even if the arrest took place no where near the property, and even if you're a rich & famous celebrity. The casinos will also sometimes will send your name, address, birthdate, picture, and other identifying info around to all other casinos in the area, so that if they see you,THEY can ban you also.
There are different degrees of banning, from a simple "Sir, you can play any game in here except blackjack"; to being read the tresspass act; all the way up to false arrest, and even physical beatings. All of these things STILL go on. (Although thanks to R.N. and a few other of the rare attorneys who are not in the back pocket of the casinos, the false arrests and beatings are starting to occur much more infrequently than they used to)
