How to get comps?

I took a two day trip to Niagara falls a few months back and played roughly 35 hours in two days...i'd say 12 hours a day is a conservative estimate...I'm not there to sleep after all. Also, I don't think getting caught will be an issue. First of all I've heard there is practically no heat at Montreal and secondly I'm playing fairly low stakes.

i have never got comped for anything other than food (woops that is a lie, i get gas money at one place!), and this is playing low stakes at a fairly classy joint. After about 2-3 hours playing on a players card, typically at one table, I'll ask the pitboss if i can get comped food, they check my card in the system, and usually say ok. i usually get comped at $5-$10 stakes enough money to feed to people a solid meal.
i'm a herbivore, so usually food options aren't that great for me, i'm sure i could ask to go to the buffet, but instead at this one joint i ask for a specific restaurant. i could do this at almost all the casinos i play now. i haven't been playing long enough or at high enough stakes to ask for a room, golf, or a day at the spa yet
but i think if you're playing $25/hand at most places, 3-4 hours of play should get you something more generous. (someone correct me if i'm wrong).

If you get on their mailing list they might send you coupons for a free buffet and free event tickets. Maybe asking the pit will get you something, but don't think the players club points amount to much.

At a common sense level, if the pit sees you leaving with some chips, don't come back to the same pit 10 minutes later without any chips.
If playing at higher stakes, be careful not to rathole chips that will trigger a call from the cage to the pit to verify. And don't "churn" enough cash on either cashouts (or maybe buyins?) where you will trigger the need for a multiple transaction log (3k) or CTR (10k).

I had a bad experience playing for comps. I am not going to post where or why yet, I plan on talking to a host on the phone first and seeing if this is something I screwed up. All I can tell you is that my buddy and I sat down together all but one time and he ended up getting completely comped and getting their top of the line status, where I got nothing.
We checked our points before we left and I had less than $20 in credit. Then when I went to check out - after complaining - even that was gone. My buddy talked to a host and in the process discovered that his super high rating was a result of being grossly OVER rated. And I mean 10x or better.
So we have two guys, neither truly was rated properly. And as I went through playing for those 4 days, it was my experience that precious few pit bosses were paying a damn bit of attention. I played 3+ hours of 50-75 hands at the Venitian, netted nearly 2K and he was rating me with a buy in of 500 with 25 hands.
My a$$ is severely chapped.

What's your betting level? It may be at a level where the V just doesn't give a damn. or, maybe even if they DO rate you accurately, your comps just wouldn't amoun to squat.
One thing you can do is ask the pit when you're coloring up what he was marking you down for with regards to buyin/cashout and average bet size, and correct any inaccuracies.

I was *told* that avg. $25 bets is what I would need to make, and I was doing $25, $50 and $100. The majority of my sessions were $25 with aggressive splits and doubles.
I was shocked at how many times we asked a pit boss for our rating and they looked at us like... "what did you just ask me? What's a rating?"
