iPhone App

Hi all,

Long time reader, but new to posting. Simple question though, I'm getting into iPhone app development and was wondering if anybody here had use or ideas for BJ apps. Before we get into any legality discussions, I'm not writing anything to use to count in a casino. There are already apps that do that and are questionable legally/morally. Any input is apprectiated. Thanks.

Actually, they aren't "questionable.' It's called a felony.

as an iphone owner, I do have one BJ app called "21 pro"

it is a pretty decent app, and allegedly allows people to practice counting (i think using Hi/Lo). Since i don't use hi/lo i ignore that feature.

It is a REALLY solid app, i think it is a lite version, so the full version probably has more features, but you can have it deal however many decks you want, including odd numbers of decks, with lots of rule adjustments. it has good graphics and a good user response (i.e. touching the chips and moving them works without too much dicking around).

if you're going to build an app to practice counting, first look to see what is on the web and is already developed for the iphone, then build from that.

there is a free mac os x app called blackjack interanational that is cool, i've spoken with the developers to add customized counts, they thought it was a good idea but still only hi/lo exists (last i checked).

best thing would be to build an app to practice counting down decks with any number of systems, and then practice counting at a simulated table.

I have like 5 or so bj apps and there is alot to be improved in my opinion.

Things that must be included:
The game with customizable rules (decks, DOA, S17, DAS, etc)
Options to choose how many players play
Option to scale bet
Decent graphics, though they don't have to be amazing.
Option for game to display/keep track of count in some way

The things above are pretty well done in the majority of the games available, some things that could make the game amazing:

Option to play different side bets
Choose how many players play around you
Customizable player skill level
(it would be really cool to have them come and go at random, with some of them being perfect bs players while others completely suck and rarely a fellow AP could show up)
Ability to spread to multiple hands (if spots not taken by other players)
Option to just watch (to emulate back counting)
Heat! (with an option to determine how much heat of course)
Options to display the count at end of shoe, after every hand, or always would be really cool
Support for common counting systems (not that hard to program

That's just off the top of my head, but if you did all of that in a game it would be really really cool. You could even go further and make it really really cool. Perhaps create a campaign mode where you have to visit AC & Vegas & reeno and play by the local rules there and win certain amounts before being able to move to the next town.

Goddamn you could make a cool game. I hope you do it.

Haha, wow that game would be great. Unfortunately it sounds like it's beyond my abilities. I was thinking more along the lines of odds/edge calculators or BS trainers, something like that... Some sort of utilities rather than reinventing the wheel with a game. Thanks for the input though, keep it coming and if I can do something then I will.

I agree with Mimosine, 21 Pro is the most solid BJ app I've seen so far. Only thing I would like to see improved upon in that game would be different counting systems and computer players. Other than that I think that game has it all.

If you want to make a BS testing game I would take a look at my post of a bj app review on this site...

http://www.blackjackinfo.com/bb/showthread.php?t=13569&highlight=iPhone+App

That app was solid but had no way to test the player, that is what you might be able to improve on. If you want a tester of the app I'd be more than willing to.

Good Luck! Have Fun!

I do some programming, and I bet you could do it. The things that seperate the game from good to great aren't that hard to program i dont think, except the heat option might be tough. I still think you could just have the program keep the count and see how his bet correlates, his percent of bs played correctly, and correct deviations from the count. If those three multiplied together were over a certain number than you could start to get heat. This would also encourage camouflage plays which could be cool.
