Is there any way to have an advantage over the house without card counting?
I know a player who sits at a table in the high limit room with a stack of chips -- but is never dealt a hand of his own. He's a gregarious type who makes complimentary remarks to the female pit people and kabitzes sports with the other players. When somebody is dealt a doubling or a splitting hand, he cordially offers to go in on it. He's established relationships with many of the big shooters, gets some action, always positive, and that's his entire game.
On a more conservative note, you could sit at a crowded table and play the table minimum using only basic strategy. Make sure the table is nearly full and that you are the smallest bettor. With five or six other players there, you'll see several double down opportunities per hour in their hands, most of them for a bigger bet than your own. Go in on as many of them as you can. A typical DD play carries roughly a 6% positive EV. If you can get one double every 15 minutes for twice the size of your own bet, you'll have a positive overall EV. I don't know if milking it to this extent is feasible, but that would do the trick.
