Bottom line is that the law says she can't legally gamble until she is 21. Of course, she may attempt to do so illegally, but the risk to reward ratio is, at best, poor.
Right. And I bet you've never sped, or run a red light, or drank before you were of age?

This message board is for the exchange of information related to blackjack, and Las Vegas in particular in this subsection. I'm sure the poster is aware that the legal age is 21. They posted asking for information, and some posters provided helpful information. If they wanted a "mommy figure" I'm sure they would have gone elsewhere.

The reality is, a novelty ID is very very likely to work. If not, 99% of the time the only thing they are going to do is ask you to leave. I would be very surprised if charges were ever pressed.

The only problem you might have is if you do hit a slot jackpot and they need ID for tax purposes. But since this is a blackjack site, I was hoping the OP has enough sense to stay away from slots.

An interesting anecdote is when I went through security heading out to Vegas this year. The guy that checks tickets & IDs at the front of security shined a special light on my ID. I asked him what it's for, and he said it brings out some security features on the ID. I asked if he saw a lot of fakes, he laughed and said yeah, especially during spring break. I would have thought people would be smart enough to use their real ID to get on the plane and save the fake for the bar where as long as it looks close enough its ok!

Someone convicted for underage gambling in NJ loses the right to drive until 21 in NJ and any state that has reciprical agreements( 57 and counting),the ability to obtain a state license to work as a barber or hair stylists, home health aide or some several dozen other jobs, any financial aid( state and federal) to attend any institute of higher learning in NY,NJ,PA and Delaware, and will not be eligible for any NJ civil service job until their 25th birthday or in any casino for ten years. It used to affect your ability to join the Armed Forces but doesn't at the moment.
Just a tad different from running a red light or speeding. Those same penaltys do apply in you are caught presenting fake id for the purpose of obtaining liquor.
In the late 90s,my club was shuttered for ten days because of two underage kids who got hurt in a fight. We went after their parents and sued for loss of revenue. The parents insurance company paid us a very nice settlement.

And this has WHAT to do with my point? Absolutely NOTHING my friend.

But to answer your question, (1) yes, I generally drive 10 over the posted speed limit, (2) no, I am that annoying asshole who actually slows down and stops at yellow lights and (3) yeah, when I got to college, I drank before I was 21.

and (1) not a criminal misdemeanor, (2) not applicable, since I don't, and (3) yes a misdemeanor some 18 years ago, but I didn't get information from this website on the best way to avoid MIP laws. Read on...

My point isn't to be a nanny in this matter... or a "mommy figure" as you called me. Really I don't give a flying **** what this girl does. Privately, I hope she uses the fake ID, provides cover for some good counters who make a killing, then gets caught and has the book thrown at her.

My point is that I don't believe the best interests of this forum are served by encouraging someone to do something illegal as related to gambling.

However, my opinion being stated, this is the last time I will make the point. And the reason for that is that this is Ken's site to do with as he sees fit, not mine, nor will I be so bold as to assume I know what he should do.

HOWEVER, The name "Ken Smith" attracted me to this site because the guy is a great player and a gentleman in his demeanor. I believe he established this website to promote the game of blackjack and to help interested players improve their game. You said it yourself, this message board is for the exchange of information related to blackjack. But what some of you have done is engage in the exchange of information related to FRAUDULENT forms of legal identification, which is (in fact) a criminal act, a class C misdemeanor in Nevada.

Exchanging information of this nature demeans the site and detracts from the amount of really good information available here. I also think it hurts the overall credibility of these forums.

But I have said my piece and I am out of this one. This is Ken's site and he will have to make the ultimate decision about what conversations are appropriate for his site.

However, if this girl is arrested, and has a horrible experience as a result, then just know that each and every person who publicly encouraged her illegal behavior bears a modicum of responsibility in this matter. If you can live with that, then so be it.

My heartfelt answer is to such moral high-ground consideration is...

Fake ("novelty") ID's are illegal and this thread should be closed and then its corpse stickied as a warning to anyone else who wants to discuss illegal activities.

Don't discuss illegal activities on boards that have access to your IP. Geez.

Technically they are only illegal when they are used in an intent to defraud (including age) I believe. But in general I don't think they are illegal - this aspect does merit some discussion, in my opinion.

But yes, discussing fake ID's for underage gambling/drinking shouldn't be done.

At least in Nevada and California, simple possession of a forged ID which purports to be from a government agency is a crime. (Note the wording - if it claims to be from a government agency, even a ficticious government agency, it is a crime.)

Whether you are prosecuted to the full extent of the law will depend on when they are used and your intent to defraud, but the legality does not depend on those two factors. If you try to get into a 21-and-over club with a fake ID, you'll probably just get it confiscated and told to take a hike. That doesn't mean it's not more punishable than the punishment you received. Casinos don't play around, and you'll be prosecuted to the full extent of the law (and maybe then some!).

Also note that being able to buy one off the Internet does not imply legality. People will either sell them from a state or country where it is not illegal, but the moment you pick it up, you are committing a crime.

I bit my tongue on this last night, but what can I say - I can't keep my big mouth shut. I'm with Rosty, Chef and Shadroch on this one.

I think it's shitty that there are members on this forum who are encouraging this individual to do something blatantly illegal and stupid. ESPECIALLY considering what could happen to her if she is caught.

This thread should be closed and deleted. Seriously.

This site is for discussions about legal gambling. bluegirl, I don't know how old you actually are but go to disneyland instead and save your Vegas trip until you are 21.
JEFF! I AM 21! AND DISNEYLAND?? YEAH THANKS.. THANKS A LOT! GEEZ i cant believe PEOPLE in this forum... MORON! thank god! not all the people here are as irritating as you!

I have no problem about discussing illegal things. Sometimes the line isn't as clear as it could be lol. Maybe that's just me, lol.

I assumed you were 21 from your first post and you were only asking on behalf of your friends, most likely out of concern for them, who are not 21.

No big deal, I was no angel when I was their age, used my cousin's ID for years - I was a dead-ringer for him lol, - but that was in the 18th century lol and so what if the liquor store said no and I walked out lol.

Whatever, let us know what happens, if they do or they don't etc :)
