maximum advisable gains in one round of play

#1
Hey,

I'm new to counting and I was looking for some advice on how to avoid detection from the dealer and the pit boss. In particular, what % increase in my bankroll should I allow per round of play before stopping? Presumably if I go on too long they will get wise.

Thanks

The dealer and the pit boss don't know what your bankroll is, nor do they care, so when analyzing casino heat (unwanted casino scrutiny) you shouldn't think in terms of percentages of BR. That is a personal money management concern.

Instead, you should think in terms of "percentage of the table maximum bet", which is the information that is available to casino observers. In casinos with relatively high maximums, a $250 bet won't even receive a second glance from a PB. In other stores, that is close to a table max bet and will attract serious attention, particularly in uncrowded conditions surrounded by low-rollers. Smaller casinos with lower table maximums are also more likely to have lower threat thresholds.

Those three variables - available table maximum (which is indicative of tolerance level), crowdedness, and clientele - are the three most significant environmental considerations. This is followed by an analysis of your own persona and demeanor, and how likely you are to arouse suspicion. Someone who doesn't fit the profile of a counter (young, white, American male, stylishly dressed, quiet and reserved) can get away with a lot more than someone who does.
