my black jack experience

#1
I went and played some blackjack and lost some money. wish i could have won about $500 but didn't. really want to try again to win about $500. A guy in front of me hit a 12 against a dealer's 6 and drew a 10. The dealer then flipped another 6 for twelve and drew a 7 for 19 and beat me. Also, i hit a 16 against a dealer's 10 and drew a 7. The 7 would have busted the dealer and a person insulted me for the play. I felt like crap and lost money also. Want to win $500. any tips?

Try again if you like

Blackjack is a good game with a low house edge. It sounds like you have at least a decent idea of proper basic strategy, but you should google it to make sure you are playing right. If you play again and bet $25 or more per hand you will have a good chance to win the $500. Just remember that the casino has an advantage over you and you have a better chance of losing $500, unless you learn to count cards. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip. also why are so many good folks on her obsessed with saying "store" when its a casino and saying "ploppies". I mean give me a break. also, feel like you can grind our playing a bunch of shoes for hours and hours but after all those shoes and all those hands, the night basically comes down to 3-5 good splits and doubles opportunities where you get a lot of money on the table in a weak dealer situation and if you win 'em its a good night and lose 'em, tough night.

yeah?

What is your style of play?
Do you know correct basic strategy, etc.? zg

not sure what you mean by style of play and yes i know a good half of the basic startegy chart, other half a little shaky. sometimes too i want to maybe move to another table or leave but get stuck waiting for a drink and then always seem to get a double or split while waiting and lose, end up losing more than i wanted. i do surrender hands and always split all of my pairs though. Just want to win about $500.

Your best chances to win another $500 depends on ypur Bankroll and what kind of risk your willing to accept, to get that $500 back. even then, losing another $500 is still an option.

Even with counting, his chances of losing(ror) are around 90%. I think hed be better off playing 5 or $10 units.

A store is slang for a casino and ploppies are slang for non-counters (yes that includes you)

You've come to the right place to learn how to win consistently in the long run.

As I tell people who ask me to turn their tiny bankroll (like $100) into $1000 quickly by counting cards: I will turn $100 into $0 in one night but I can turn $8000 into $9000 in a few months. One time I had a friend ask to accompany me to a casino to count cards. He busted out quickly just playing at my table and raising his bets when I did since he only had $200 in cash. Consequently, I had a ~$300 win grinded out over several hours. I felt bad so I gave him $100 after my session since he waited for me all that time. Since then I don't bring friends along when I visit a casino, unless they understand the "risk of ruin" and have at least $500 they won't mind if they lose, and I am going to a place where I won't get heat. I tell them to bet $25 only when I raise my bet and not play when I bet the min. I do enjoy teaching others how to count, and having them watch me play and hopefully spark an interest in them.

If you're not counting, your best bet of leaving a casino with $500 is to walk in with more than $500.

Not sure what the problem is here. Ploppy is a fantastic word used to identify indescribable degenerate scum as well as noobs like you.Your post is ridiculous. Don't you need more than your precious $500 now since you lost your first effort due to slow cocktail service? Or do you just want to win exactly $500 at some point so you can have a purple chip to show your girlfriend?
yes i know a good half of the basic startegy chart
When asked if you know basic strategy this would be a great answer if you replace the word 'yes' with 'no' in this sentence.
always split all of my pairs though
i am guessing this is the half you are shaky on.

The first thing that the original O.P. must learn
is that he is more likely to lose than to win even
if he knows the correct Basic Strategy (for the
number of decks and precise rule set in play)

i think "indescribable degenerate scum" is much funnier than ploppy:confused: and no i want to win the $500 as a goal not to show my girlfriend. not sure why you think i stink at basic strategy, as i said i know it decently and about 1/2 of the plays perfectly. As it says, it just a basic strategy, not the most advanced strategy of play needed to win more. sounds like you might be a ploppy yourself! but thanks for the advice everyone.

also what you think of doubling an ace/3 when dealer shows a 3. i know the very basic strategy is to double but it seems like i lose it all of the time?

If you want to have a chance to win do yourself a favor. STOP posting and START educating yourself.

The left side of this screen is the place to start, capise??

And BTW, A3 vs 3 is a lousy double unless the count's really ripe.

This'll be my only post in this thread.

The left side of the screen has a link labeled "Blackjack School". I highly recommend you go through it.

You clearly don't know as much basic as you think you do. A3 v 3 is not a basic strategy double.

Stop saying words and start learning things.

Please, do yourself a favor and just google basic strategy. If you feel really gutsy, try clicking on "BASIC STRATEGY ENGINE" to the left of your screen.

Only ask questions if you can't figure out the answer after searching the forum, searching the site, and searching google. Evidently, you have not tried any of these.

At the very least, the elementary education of a nascent card counter must include an
understanding of the equity inherent in various plays and defensive vs. offensive splits etc.
and an understanding that Basic Strategy — "One Size Does NOT Fit All"
COMPLETE Basic Strategy Charts are to be found in The Theory of Blackjack by Peter Griffin
and in Blackjack Attack, 3rd ed. by Donald Schlesinger.

If you are unwilling to study, you won't succeed.

I'm not completely sure why I'm responding to this, but here goes...

Knowing basic strategy is memorizing 100% of the plays on the chart. If you knew basic strategy, you'd be able to draw the table and fill all of the plays in from memory correctly. If you can only correctly fill in 50% of the boxes, then you absolutely stink at Basic Strategy.

You're correct that the chart is just a basic strategy. If used, you're expected to lose at the rate dictated by the house edge (typically 0.5-1.0% of the total dollars bet, depending on the rules of your game). If you get half the plays wrong, you're expected to lose at a much higer rate (perhaps 3-5% of the total dollars bet). To actually win money requires a more "advanced" strategy, such as counting.

Sorry, but 50% on any exam is failing miserably, as is knowing only 99% of Basic Strategy! I'd love to watch you play sometime, especially if you always split all your pairs. I'd consider that really good entertainment.
