Just got back from today's trip to the casino (not LV) and see the many responses.

General conditions of my play:
Anon just about everywhere.
Played mostly shoes (10-12:1), some DD at both Station and MGM (6:1), green to black.
Never play a DD game more than 30 min, unless the count went nowhere and I never raised by bet more than 2U. Sometimes shorter.
Never play a shoe game more than an hour, shorter if more than one shoe ends with a big bet.
No, I'm not moving my lips. I can carry on a conversation and count at the same time, as well as backcount 2 adjacent tables while faking a phone call ;)
You could be more aggressive. Full wong, bet size to BR (or to kelly size you can stand) DD sessions are probably a bit long. No need to stop at the cage, just move quickly from store to store. Of course DO NOT play rated.

How many shoes would that be on average? (What I'm getting at is an hour at a full table equals half the number of shoes as a table with a total of 3 players, of course--perhaps you were playing too many shoes the previous 5 trips?)

I try to sit at tables with one or two other players. My guesstimate is that would be 4 shoes or so.

If you're getting backed off on 30 minutes sessions playing 1-12 on shoe games, you might have some other problems. Rotate a few different casinos into the mix and play different shifts. It's very odd that you'd be getting backed off so aggressively on a typical trip with that kind of spread and session length. As long as you're not literally staring at the cards, looking at the discards, looking at your chips, and then betting/playing, you may have other problems with heat (pit recognition, flyers, etc.).

LG:

He's playing an hour on shoes (30 minutes on pitch).

Well, a quick calculation reveals that's about 21 hands per shoe (at 75% pen at 2.7 cards per hand at 4 players total--for two other players at the table including the dealer), which puts you at about 84 consecutive hands in the hour; technically enough data for Survey Voice (which Cellini said requires at least 3 shoes or 75 consecutive hands). Even higher numbers with only one other player at the table.

Don't know if that's what's been busting you or not, but you might try reducing the session lengths to see if that helps; just food for thought. (But hey, you emerged unscathed this last trip; try and uncover that variable and repeat (if there is one).

Best regards,

FD
