New player seeking advice/feedback

Hello all,

First of all i would like to introduce myself.
I am a Computer Science student based in the UK. I have made 5k quid playing part time Poker and was introduced to card counting a few weeks ago and have been hooked since.

After going through all the casinos in my neighborhood i found a place offering 6 decks, S17, DAS, No Surrender, No Peek games (estimated edge of -0,55%)

During the past three weeks i:
-Learned to count using Hi/Lo ( counting down decks in 20seconds ) and i did alot of backcounting at actual casinos to get used to it.
-Learned the BS for the game my casino is offering.
-Im currently working on learning the BS variations
-Covered Std. Deviation and calculated everything about my games.
-I bought a shoe and chips and im running simulations to learn to keep track of the RC, the precise TC, do the pay offs correctly and learn to apply BS and its variation as fast as possible.
-As for betting i will be using this form: (TC-offset/error factor)*unit

If you have any suggestions to make or think that im missing something feel free to post it.

I will be taking my play to the casinos in about 20 days when my BR will be ready and i want to get the maximum out of my play and maximize my overall edge over the casino.

peace

MaaK,

What is this "Error Factor" that you divide by to get the optimal bet? (It must be a pure number.) What is the usual range of that number?

I don't understand the error factor either: that aside you sound like you're making youself thorouhly prepared for casino play! Sounds to me like you're doing everything right. Good cards!:joker:

BTW unless the error factor varies much away from "1" I wouldn't worry about it.

This is no particular "error" factor, it's just the slope of the linear map from TC to bet size. You can name this factor "error factor", "bet spread", "betting aggression" or anything else.

Maak, one important thing to find out is the penetration of the shoe. With only shallow penetration you won't find high TC opportunities, and hence you have to increase your bet spread (aggressive betting). Backcounting is the better option, with that you can reduce your bet spread greatly. With aggressive backcounting you can even flat bet.

Congrats on your 5K with poker. Blackjack is another story though.

Not trying to put you off but if you are a successful poker player, the advantage you gain with that is much more than you will ever gain with BJ.

BJ is really over the long haul.

Saying that being able to screw the casino over and over by having a small edge is worthwhile!
I`m from the UK too. Some tips.
Make sure your bankroll is sufficient.
a 1-12 spread is good to beat most games( the 4 and 6 deckers).
Learn your illustrious 18 indices first- They are the ones you will see the most.
Get ready to laugh at ridiculous ploppy play.
When your bankroll grows- make a bigger spread. I`ve gotten away with 1-24 and I`m sure in some places its possible for more.
If you are winning an average 2 out of 3 sessions you are doing well.
STOPloss on a losing session!

Good luck!:eyepatch:
P.s Do you play live or online poker?

Let me just say this, if you spread 1-24, there's ways you can get away with it most of the time, until your hand involves splits and double downs and becomes something like a 4 x 24 bet ;)
