Newbie with a ?

First off, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who posts on this discussion board. As someone who has always been fascinated by numbers, and more recently by taking money from casinos, I have truly enjoyed the last few months of reading the posts in this forum.

Although I am beginning to put money into play in a local casino, I am finding that I am becoming more and more comfortable; however, my pulse is still racing when the count goes to +14 with 2 decks left.

This feels like a stupid question, but when do you count the dealers cards. After each hand is dealt out, I get a quick count of the table, but I am trying to decide when I should count the dealers cards. Should I count his up card once it is dealt, or should I wait until he flips it over and pair it with his down card?

Current game that I am playing:
6 deck shoe game
75% pen
H17
DAS
Table limits are 5$ to 500$

I count his up card along with the other players first two cards. In a six deck game, it shouldn't matter much. The count is more about the size of your bet than the way you ply your hand.

Thanks. I wasn’t thinking that this one card would change the count so much that it would change my decision; however, during my last outing I had a few instances where I began to think about the possibility of waiting to count it until I was able to see both of his cards. Thanks for the reply, seems like that option makes the most sense to me.

I agree with Shadroch. Count the dealers up card with the rest of the first round. I try to use any info available to me, even if it is one card. Good luck and play smart!.....JtMM

I usally count the hand when it's finished being played but this is out of pure laziness. It makes no difference really because your bet has already been made. I only bother to count the cards as they're dealt, if the count is good and we're deep into the shoe.

It could make a slight difference for an insurance bet or for an index play.
