Can't tell from your post, but it's possible the asian man didn't speak English and/or ignored previous advice the dealer tried to give. I've seen that happen quite a few times.
This is a very good point, and I've also seen that happen a few times. But what really convinced me in THIS instance, was the fact that the dealer just SMOKED that card out of the shoe as fast as he possibly could. There was NO doubt as to his intentions. I'm sure that had you been there and seen it, you would also agree.

There are some dealers who are automatons and will just fire away, no questions asked. Most, thankfully, have some idea what a BS player is doing and will ask a second time before dealing the card.

I've had it both ways when I somehow didn't realize what the upcard was and hit a stiff on a bust card. It's not their job to make sure you know what to do but it is a reasonable expectation that they know the correct play and figure that's what you'd want to do.

However, they always seem to ask a second or even a third time when I'm hitting my 13 or 14 vesus their 2 or 3, and really hesitate when it's against their 6.

Yeah I usually question plays like these, like one time a guy hit 16 vs my 2, and I was like "you sure?" and he thunk about it for a while and waved it. Then next cards I pulled were 4 5 10 lol. Made 21 and the guy beside him said "next time you say NOTHING!" It's lose lose for us dealers man cuz had I given the man his card the guy next to him probly would have bitched at me for doing so without asking questions first.
