On getting barred

You go into a Vegas casino. You're counting, obviously, and you're winning, and they know it. Do they immediately bar you or do they bar you if you keep coming back? Does this vary depending on the scale and reputation of a casino?

Yes. In some places you'll get some mild heat before you get barred; other places will just skip the pleasantries and bar you.

Ok, AC then

Ok, what about AC. By law, they cannot bar you, but recently I went there and made quite a lot of money counting cards. It comical how much heat I had. No one barred me or made me bet flat, but they knew what was going on and they may have known that I knew that they knew, too. So how much more money can I win from AC before I can expect someone from an AC casino to tell me I can only bet flat?

Your idea of a lot of money may be different than theirs. The first thing they usually do is have the dealer shuffle after you place a big bet, or they may put the cut card at 50% next shoe. Those are more common reactions in AC, rather than flat betting.

They never did any of those things. I could tell that that wasn't their culture. In fact, I felt a little guilty about taking so much money from them. But usually there was at least one other person at the table, so I don't see how they could suddenly just reshuffle. No, I think this is a long term problem related to me. I didn't detect any other cardcounters at any table at any casino where I was. Just your typical gambler--expect for me.

They just reshuffle. Why would the presence of other people stop them?

How much did you win? 4 figures? 5 figures? 6 figures?

I remember my first five figure paycheck. It was the summer of '76 and it was for $103. 56. After taxes.
