Pit Talks About Counting to You??

I was at a local small casino playing multi-deck when a pit member asked me to try a new game they have. It is really stupid where the dealer shows his cards but you lose a push, even money on Bjack and very bad pen DD. I asked him the rules and he told me a little and I asked what Bjack paid. After he told me even I said No Thanks and he said "yeah well for a normal player it is a little better than Bjack but for a counter regular blackjack is the only game to play." Was he just F'ing with me or do only counters ask the payout on Bjack? Did I out myself? I left after that.

Anybody who plays blackjack should be aware of what a natural blackjack pays, but many don't bother to care. Does that mean only counters care whether it is 3:2 and are willing to walk if it is less? Doubt it.

Sounds like you ran into Double Exposure blackjack. I remember seeing that in a couple places throughout the years, like the MGM in Detroit...always passed on that game. Not sure if it is beatable, never really cared to find out.

good luck

Hey WhiteGuy,

He or she was just feeling you out. He wasn't quite sure if you were a cardcounter or not. Maybe "he" was sure but his superiors weren't. In other words, someone in the chain of command was not sure. "Management was not convinced yet." You get the idea? He wanted you to say or do something you shouldn't have so that he could be the one to convince his superiors that you are a CC. IF YOU ACTUALLY DID LEAVE WITHOUT SAYING OR DOING ANYTHING, YOU MADE THE RIGHT MOVE--MANAGEMENT STILL ISN'T CONVINCED AND THE PIT CRITTER DIDN'T EARN HIS BROWNIE POINTS.

This is a common tactic! It's also a crappy tactic. He gave you plenty of information along with the OPTION (options are always a good thing and usually a valuable thing) not to give him any info. What info. did he give you? You now know that the shift manager is awear that you "might be" a CC. You also know what that pit critter looks like. I would avoid him at all costs. He's probably got it in his little critter brain that you are a CC and there's little possibility of changing his mind.

If you haven't noticed already, many pit bosses have very similar personalities as cops. They appear dumb and occassionally are but they're usually very "street-smart." Fortunately, they have to answer to men that aren't street-smart. (i.e.: MBA's.) 40 years ago they would've just taken you in a back room and slapped you with a phone book a couple of times.

Also, I want to add a couple more side-notes. Both MBA's and cops usually suck at professional gambling. The critter was doing what's known to us as a bluff. You should have called it. And if you do find yourself playing on that shift, call the bluff. Read Wong's PB from pages 156 - 182.

I think it's time you engaged in a little REVENGE COUNTING

Last night.

I was in my regular local casino playing a 6deck game(i come here like 3 to 4 times a week)when suddenly a kid comes up with his 3 friends and starts playing at my table, i was alone.
Im in first base and (at one particular hand)make my move then suddenly the kid stares at the dealer and says "im counting cards so im gonna make a lot of money from you punk hahaha":joker:
-the dealer replies " ha! you cannot do that, if you were doing that the eye in the sky would had known besides i count too and you dont count!"
Next he deals and asks "what is the count now?hahah":violin:
the kids doesn't know what to do, so he looks down at the cards and says " i cannot tell you that but i will take you down!":flame:
(the count was zero at the time with 3 decks left, 83% of penetration in that particular shoe so 2 decks to play)
he lost that hand
next hand
The kid raise his bet like 35 units of his minimum, the dealer laughs and deals.
The kid losses that hand too.
(the running count rises to +15):)
here comes the real question of what to do?
i raise my bet to max in 2 hands and say to the kid "hey kid dont worry let me help you, the hand of the dealer is now yours!":eyepatch:
the kid looks at me and says "thank you" meanwhile his friends are like" damn man all that bs and you can do ****!":band:
he puts the last remain of his money in the table.
I get 2 naturals and he gets a crappy H16 vs a face card from the dealer. He hits and busts. He goes away in agony.(i won)
After the hand the dealer says to me(he knows me from other days)"those idiots, they think we the dealers dont know our jobs, we can smell a counter a mile away!"
he continues" the eye in the sky has banned 3 counters from here in the past 6 months, the last one was a real pro!"
i ask "who?"
he says "an asian guy who was counting and winning to much then he says his name(i know this guy he doesn't count cards, he is a ploppy master"he teaches other people how to play") and tells me he doubled down on a 20 and got an Ace, thats why he got banned":gun:
i reply " i wish i could do that but thats to hard ."
he replies "all because that damn movie!"
I continue to play for 20 minutes more then my girlfriend arrives and i leave to eat.
Eating with my Gf, i start thinking maybe they are on to me or something, why the dealer told me that (the banned counters and that he counts), he must know something, i shouldn't had raise that bet! in that particular time.
I dont know if im being paranoid but im going to cool off that place for maybe 2 weeks.

Any suggestions? Did i acted wrong? please i dont want to lose this particular place!

It also sounds like there's a pretty good chance he's an idiot, if they've really booted a ploppy who they thought was a counter. Or the dealer may have been making everything up.

Taking everything you saw and heard at face value, it sounds like you're in a casino which is paranoid, but filled with stupid people (both employees and players).

I couldn't have said it better. Don't worry about it too much. You may just want to consider not playing on that shift for a few months but even that may be an over-reaction?

i had a dealer asked me if i had read blackjack for blood and another AP books. truthfully all the titles he rattled off i hadn't read! hahaha.

i think i hit a soft 18 v 10, or i doubled soft 19 v 6 and that set him off. he seemed quite knowledgeable about the game from his own personal playing....

i still don't get the point of the conversation. i'm not going to tell a casino employee that i've read advantage play books at a table while i'm playing. and if he thought he was going to spook me, it didn't. i just left the table for the one next to it, and started pounding that one.

The one that knocked me for a loop and got me flustered, was the time a pit boss walked up to me, smiled, and said
"DO YOU KNOW ARNOLD SNYDER???
If you ever get asked again, answer, "The football player???" And then look around the pit as if you're looking for a football quarterback.

I found one dealer at the Casino Arizona who knows BS perfectly, perfectly, and he will help everyone at the table who's unsure about a play. I've even seen him advise someone to hit a soft 18 against a dealer 5 or 6. They guy wasn't going to, the dealer told him "the book says to hit it" and the guy did and won. I know the casino still has an edge with straight BS, but it seems weird that they let the dealer openly coach everyone. I was surprised he coached them correctly as well, and he was very nice about it. He was helpful without sounding like a know it all.

Some of the casinos up in the Northwest do the same thing. I've seen the dealer coach several times. I've also had the dealer comment on plays I've made that bothered the whole table. The dealer will say something like "no, that was the right play there" and everyone stops bitching. Ofcourse I just act ignorant and confused to not blow my cover.

I think a fair amount of them can count, but don't on a regular basis. Counting is a strain when you do it for hours. They gain nothing by it,and it has the potential to affect their required duties.
What is in it for the dealer to count every shoe?

Well, I think if a dealer lets too many counters win, his/her tables will suffer from a low hold and he/she will get crap from the supervisor. But barring incredible greed on the part of a card counter (and walking off with six figures from a $5 table), or draconian policies from the casino (where individual dealers will be blamed for bad luck), I agree with you - dealers don't care.

Thats not his job. Thats the pit and the Eye in the Skys job. Dealers rotate tables, and take breaks. They aren't responsable for their tables holds.

I've sen that in Ontario also .... even saw a pit crew pull out a BS card when someone asked the dealer what to do on a hand. But the Casinos are government run, so why not?
