Playing with Amateurs/Beginners

#1
Good Morning all, how does everyone deal with playing at a table with other players that do not understand the game. Nothing frustrates me more than when you sit at a table and you have some college kids boozing it up and burning cards off. I know the simple answer is to move tables however where I am there are limited tables and often long waiting..

Thanks

I'd say don't worry about it, as stupid kids playing has no long term effect on your game. Other than being an annoyance.
They have a massive effect on your game. The difference between getting 25 hands/hr and 70 hands/hr is substantial. And I've seen full tables at both ends of that spectrum.

You aren't going to speed up an entire table of slow people looking to have a good time. If the table is otherwise playing fairly quickly, and one human rain delay sits down, then it might be worthwhile to try to nudge him out.

But for the most part ... get up and find a faster table.

The worst I've ever been at was an all-Spanish table, and I mean language, not Spanish 21. The dealer would literally stop to do a comedy act in Spanish between every hand.

The crowd loved it! Well, except for one player, who was fighting off the temptation to yell "Hondeles hondeles arriba arriba!"

When they ask for advice you could provide them the wrong answer so they would lose faster.
Good idea. But if they win, you will be gnashing your teeth as they continue to win, while you yourself may be losing doing all the right things. It wouldn't be the first time that poetic justice reared its ugly face (the beauty or ugliness depends on your point of view). lol

Just go halfsies with them on a close double and you have probably made back most of the EV you lost because they play so slow. Or get them to split their 10s and you take one of them. Thats a thing of beauty right there.

Bad idea if you ask me. If you get the same hand later on that you advised them to hit on and then you stand on it, trouble may be headed your way.

Speed....I have a need for speed.....but the reason I don't want other players at the table is for other reasons, not speed. I spend my entire life in a race, I don't need that **** at the BJ table...but to each his own.

You would have lovvvvvvved this dealer I had yesterday CP. She was like lightning. When the dealer had a card < 7 up she pulled a card with each hand in this delightfully graceful draw, that was both unique and speedy. Without a doubt the faster dealer that has ever dealt to me. It was all I could do to keep up.

In a heads up game no problem, I can deal with it, just when they get flying around the table and get in show mode, bad things can happen.

That's true. She did some other things, like auto hitting my 3 card 11 and a few times didn't wait for my signal on "no brainer" hands like XX v 6 or A9 etc. that mildly annoyed me.

LMAO, the main thing that bothers me is when they are burning off the deck, I have seen some of them hitting on 16-7 with the dealer showing a 4-5 It really pisses you off.

Ploppies can and DO hurt your game

If you have a narrow spread, I would assume it is significant for you to have them to soak up cards on low counts (assuming you cannot wong out) - so at this point "drawing" ploppies are good.

However, for any spread you have, "drawing" ploppies soaking up cards at a highTC is bad. Serial 10-splitters are worst, guess when they'll be doing most splitting and resplitting. It is hugely frustrating to watch tens and aces being used up to hit 14 vs 6, or to split and resplit 10,10 vs A.

Lol I am a "beginner" if you call, lbut a lot of peope underestimate a lot of kids (like me, im only 18). I get stupid looks all the time when I sit down with $200-400. Most teens are there to just have a good time, and not to become card counting sharks.

With that still said, it truely does piss me off when people do horrible moves. I was at a table. I was at first base, and there was 2 other. Dealer was showing a 10, the guy next to me splits 10 3 TIMES!!!!!! Guy next to him stays, dealer flips a 2, then 9. We all would have won if it wasnt for that idiot (I could tell he had no idea what he was doing).

This is the reason why I always go in the early mornings to the casino. I don't go for fun, If I go its for some serious business. I can usually get a table with one other person, sometimes all alone at the minimum tables.

You neglect to mention the foolish split could have soaked up a fatal "9" rather than steering it to the dealer.

Mez,

Blue is right.

A suggestion...worry about your own play and not the others at the table...it is not about them, it is about you.

You have alot to learn, hang around here and absorb.:)
