how many hours per month/per year do pro players play on average - referring purely to actual playing or backcounting time, excluding practice, scouting, admin etc.

thanks in advance for those responses :)

I average 120 hours a month. 589 hours over 5 months so far this year and 1442 hours in 2008. I take 3 trips to vegas each year in which I play 10 hours a day which tends to bump up my average. Without thoses trips I probably would be closer to 100 hours per month. I know this isn't really fulltime compared to what a person with a full time job works, but there is travel time involved, ect.

in the good old days, i used to play over 160 hours a month, which is about over 2000 hours a year, but know i do about 800 hours a year since i can't convince my wife that if i remove 10 small cards from a deck and shuffle it 200000 times i still have the same advantage everytime lol

And my question, maybe a little indiscreed, in all the years is it forseeable
how much money you make in a month.?

For me, I predict aces, there is a casino 1.5 hours from my home ,no heat because I don't hit to much aces, it could happen that I don't get an ace in
10 big bets,
I predict 2 more aces as usual, very little flux, but it happens that I am only equal or a little behind after 60 big bets, that's daunting .
My statistics over a year are +8%.

But it happens very often, that I am behind, no rollercoaster as with
only counting, but behind.
How do you handle negative flux and why you are sure that you are
the winner at the end.??

Thanx in advance for an answer.

You handle negative flux by having a substantial bankroll. Winner at the end?? end of what? not sure I understand the question, but keeping acurate records will show if you are a long term winner or not.

Just as i am sure that when i flip a coin 100000 times i am going to end up with 50001 heads and 49999 tails!!!
As you can see from the attached graph there are huge short term fluctuations in your bankroll, but overall your bankroll is increasing.

I remember on one of the first teams I played on we had a playing requirement of 10 hours per week. We were all young, single, living in Vegas, and had no other job than blackjack. Still, a few of the players would get penalized when banks broke for not making their hours.

On the other hand, I have a friend currently who probably averages 2500+ hours per year.

ICNT, talk about a picture tells more than a thousand words... Your graph is just great for illustrating your point. Great post mate.

Hey, I CountNTrack, is that graph from your actual play? Or someone else's? Very, very interesting.

also, would be good to know if possible many hours of play that 12 month period represented.

It looks like that graph starts at about a 1000 unit roll, although it is kind of hard to see. And, it breaks down to about 0 twice in less than a month. Tough break. I wonder what kind of aggressive play was simmed in there?

@ I CNT thanks for the graph.
A nice picture for itsself.

Could you give some explanations?
What is the game and the rules : 1-2-6 decks, surrender ?
are the results achieved by only counting or together with tracking, wonging ?
Are the infinite bankroll 1000 units ? very high !!

How many hours or bets per month.

Thanks for your time

What difference does it make? :), but if you really must know it is mine from 14 years ago.

About 2200 hours, but the other question should be how many hands an hour (about 80).:)

Actually starting bankroll was 1800 units. There is shuffle-tracking involved in here too so my total action per hour was pretty high and consequently the variance went up. :)

ICNT - loving the graph. Gives everyone a real idea of the rollercoaster ride they're in for.

Me - When i first started I was doing between 120 - 180 a month. But since Mar have clocked in a measly 12 hours. Decided going pro was not in my best interest as other doors are opening for me. Still planning to 20 - 40 hours a month on a part-timer basis.

Holy Smokes thats more than 40 hours a week, a full time job! How does the guy get away with that much playing?
I have been thinking more about him, and think it may be more like 3000 hours per year. He gets away with it because he doesn't count cards.

how is it possible to play more than say 20 hours per week if your max bet is half a dozen black chips?

are we now talking the requirement to travel across the country and possibly out of the country to avoid taking too much money from any one casino?
